GP1
Well i guess they will have fun playing Minor League Soccer here in America when they could be becoming legends at the Pouch. If such a mass departure does occur, it is a stab in the back to the fans. This is foolishness. These guys played their hearts out for Zips Fans, including you. And you begrudge them the opportunity to realize a dream of being paid to play the game they love?I don't get it.Go Zips! B) I agree.Fan boards tend to look at the world as if it is still the 1950s and this is a good example of it. It's easy to say a player should stay for the coach. In reality, the coaches are using the players just as much as the players use the coaches. Porter received a fat contract at UofA because of his efforts and the efforts of his players. The players recieve nothing more than a scholarship to UofA. The fans receive a good event when they pay to go to a game. After the game is over, the players and coaches have lived up to their obligations to the fans.Congratulations to this young man for realizing his dreams. w00t
Article on the first four Generation Adidas contracts for 2010Teal and Blair are in great company with Jack McInerney and Dilly Duka as the first four confirmed non-college senior Generation Adidas contracts for 2010. The other six or so players who Galarcep expects to complete the list (released in full in early January) is intriguing as well... including Tchani (Virginia), Bone (Wake Forest), Opara (Wake Forest), Okugo (UCLA). He also lists Oregon St. F Danny Mwanga, but I think Mwanga is set on signing an overseas contract, which might help pave the way for UNC MF Cameron Brown to score a GA contract as well. I was surprised that there's no mention of UCLA GK Brian Perk anywhere.Assuming that the scenario above plays out, Akron would be the Final Four team least beset by graduation/early draft entrants...Akron - Zemanski (MF), Gavin (MF), Bunbury (F)Virginia - Villanueva (MF), Barlow (MF), LaBauex (MF) , Tchani (MF), Evans (F-first off the bench)UNC - Haggarty (GK), Loyd (D), Graye (D), Brown (MF)Wake Forest - Opara (D), Bone (MF), da Luz (MF), Lichtfuss (D), Schilawski (F)UCLA's 2010 recruiting class is incredible, ten strong and heavy on Top 50 prospects. I would call UA, UVA, UCLA and UNC the early teams to beat in 2010. Akron and Virginia both return their entire back five (eight goals surrendered all season for Virginia, seven for Akron). A rematch in Santa Barbara next year is entirely possible.
mes102
Here's some highlights of Reinaldo Brenes(#20) when he was at IMG Academy in 2008-2009 season.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-kqX4d9U78...feature=channelhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75jIPAJp0Fk...feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEKXLxgOdQk&NR=1he's coming to Akron in the Class of 2010...question is....would he be a better fit at Gavin's spot, or Bunbury's spot...I guess that's Caleb Porter to decide now...personally, i think he be a great midfielder at Gavin's spot... zips4ever2008
While it is hard to see these guys leave, I wish them the best. We have other guys on the team that I'm sure are ready to jump in and start for us. I think this team is going to be motivated after what happened in the final. They know what it takes to get there. Again, I wish them luck and will be cheering for them. It'll be awesome to see more Zips in the pros. Speaking of soccer. I don't know if anyone else knows this but I heard some good news involving the soccer stadium. I guess Nike is going to play a big part in the stadium. Again, this is something I heard. Is LBJ involved in this move perhaps? Some of the coaches and players were at the Cavs game the other night getting a nice introduction. BTW -- Bruin Okugo could be the best member of this GA class if and when he comes out (also, UVa sub Chris Agorsor). And while I agree with your synopsis, Wake refuels fast and another CC cannot be ruled out. I also like UCSB's chances to play at home. Of all the top teams, UCLA is the least proven in big games recent years.

During one of the time outs in the first half they put their pictures on the Jumbotron and explained their accomplishments. Everyone cheered. Back to game. I guess I had just assumed he was an underclassman because he played for the U-20 squad in Egypt earlier this fall.

He's easily the best senior keeper, and only McMath has higher potential among current collegians (there's a guy in Akron who could have a bright future as well, but he's too young to make a good judgement on). I doubt he (Perk) will be another Stephen Frei, but on the other hand, he's probably rated as high or higher than Frei was one year ago. Overall, this year's class is clearly behind last year's -- especially the senior class.

On 2010 MLS List. The link above also claims that Tchani, Bone, Opara, Mwanga, and Okugo have now all signed MLS contracts as well.
