RowdyZip
WYOMING MESSAGE BOARDSTook a quick glance over to the message boards over there, and the only current thread referencing the game is someone's opinion that the now 6-6 Cowboys will end conference play at 8-6. Interestingly, he says a "convincing" win over Akron would change his pessimistic outlook on the season. This is a tough game simply because of the travel, altitude (7,165 FT [1.35mi] vs 1,000 FT), and time change, 9:00 EST tip. The Cowboy record includes wins over decent teams in Boise State (8-4), Northern Colorado (10-3) and also bad losses to Hampton (2-10) and Monmouth (4-9). Tough team to figure out, averaging 76.8 ppg but giving up 74.1. They do boast a 6-3 home record.Hopefully they're on from the start to pick up win number 10. The Hip Zip
This is one game where our depth may pay off big. We can run a lot of bodies in and out and have a couple of days to get ready. I also like the fact that we will have some extended time after this one to prepare for a very good R.I. team on 1/5.On their board linked above by Rowdy there is a thread that has their broadcast schedule. It appears that by signing up for "Livestream" we may be able to watch this one.
zip37
That 7.165' altitude will likely use most of the bench. An altitude like that takes some getting used to, as any of you who went to F. E. Warren AFB for Tech School can attest to. THAT'S a real home court advantage. ZachTheZip
The Zips will arrive in Laramie this afternoon. That gives them a more than a day and a half to get acclimated. The lack of oxygen at that altitude can cause some weird symptoms, not the least of which is having bizarre dreams. I hope none of our players are easily influenced by stuff like that.
Dave in Green
I really like this sequence of Valpo at home, Wyoming on the road and Rhode Island at home. Although the Wyoming team is no powerhouse, they are strong enough to give the Zips a tough game on their home court with the altitude and time zone challenges. Overall, this game should be tougher than Valpo, and help prepare the Zips for probably their second toughest game of the year (after Texas A&M) against Rhode Island. ZachTheZip
Wyoming plays a similar defensive style (full-court press, which we haven't really seen yet) to Rhode Island. It's basically a warm-up for the big game and the last piece of experience needed to prepare for the MAC.Against Valpo, we didn't see much guard play from anyone. Against these two teams, we'll need to have great ball handlers on the court at all times along with Zeke. Having Zeke out there instantly breaks the press. skip-zip
I would hope, with the conference schedule drawing near, that we have improved enough to bury a team with a 228 RPI that has already lost to teams like Monmouth and Hampton. Dave in Green
As discussed in another thread, RPI numbers are not worth mentioning unless you believe that William & Mary is the 7th best team in the country after losing to Harvard while North Carolina and Michigan State are respectively ranked 53rd and 56th. You have to fly into Denver and bus about three hours through the mountains to Cheyenne and Laramie. Get a good driver, as I recall Hawaii's bus sliding into a ditch in one WAC excursion. Fortunately, it looks like no new snow to arrive till Wednesday, but temp's are below 0 in the mornings. Did I mention there's still one vacancy for the Diamond Head Classic here next year? Huh, coach?

As much as coach D loves Ono's on Kapahulu blvd (you know the place),he would much prefer to stay in the Eastern time zone. So look for trips to Puerto Rico and/or the VirginIslands. RowdyZip
Vegas has us as a 1 to 2 point favorite in Laramie. I sure hope our guys don't take the Cowboys lightly. This looks more and more like a trap game before URI next week...

Just the other day, I was looking for a cheap air fare, and the travel agent asked me, "are you Chinese, or what?". I said, 'not Yiddish, dat OK wit' you?' Let's see if we can't loosen up his wallet with some macadamia bribes. You grease the slide from your end, and I'll do my part. We got Butler, Baylor, Miss St, and some other teams that wouldn't um, hurt the RPI...ahem. Pardon my
Valpo Zip
Is there anyway we can see the game tonight?
ZachTheZip
Up 42-37 at halftime. Wyoming loves to run. Last year's game in the JAR was a race.We let them back in the game a little at half time. Hopefully KD can figure out a way to exploit some of Wyo's tendencies. I think we were bothered by the full-court press a bit, but I'm glad we're experiencing for the first time this season it against this team and not against URI. Quickzips
It's hard to tell, but this sounds like an absolutely brutal game to watch. Just whistle after whistle, turnover after turnover for both sides. Zips up by 2 right now with 3:59 to go and one of Wyoming's best players apparently just fouled out. Going to have to close out well. Wyoming has a lot of players in foul trouble. Keep attacking them. For those of you keeping track of the Jimmy Conyers line, he has another double double tonight. johnnyzip84
Great effort tonight with another well balanced attack. Go Zips!!!
Quickzips
85-74 good guys with under :30 to go. Looks like the Zips will get out of a crazy game with a win. Too many turnovers and too many fouls tonight. Needs to be cleaned up if we want to end the OOC season with a good win over Rhode Island. On the plus side, the Zips finally have a double digit scorer on the season as Brett McKnight with 16 is finally above 10ppg for the season. Another good game from Conyers with 13pts 12reb 3stl. Hitchens and McNees combined for 7-10 from 3 including a couple big ones down the stretch.
ZachTheZip
A good win at a tough place to play.Wyoming's full-court press caused a lot of turnovers for Akron, and it's something to work on. But you saw here how the Zips know how to win. They didn't fold and they didn't lose control even when Wyoming was threatening.
