Teal Bunbury wins the Hermann Trophy

Recommended Posts

Wow - I would have bet about anything against him winning this year after it seemed like Zakuani was a shoe-in last year. My money would have been on Corben Bone. Great for Teal and the Zips. Now I have a poster signed by the Hermann award winner. :D A Hermann award winner this year and a runner-up last year. Ampaipitakwong next year? :)

We could have quite a competition for the Hermann Trophy just from our own team next year. There are probably a half-dozen candidates, beginning with Nagbe and Mwila up front and Ampai in the central attacker position. Then you cannot look past our defenders -- we may have, no probably have four of the top ten individual defenders in the nation. I can't help thinking that I'll have to bring my shades to Santa Barbara next December. Knock on wood. B) Oh, and congratulations Mr Hermann Award winner, Teal Bunbury of Prior Lake, Minnesota. I think Akron has "crossed the Rubicon", at least in soccer. And Zakuani's overlook last year played a positive impact for Teal this year. Akron has busted through the Mid-Major ceiling in one sport.

Inside Minnesota SoccerAt the College Cup Final, there were a number of guys from Minnesota sitting in front of us cheering for Teal & the Zips. Also, talked to soccer coaches from Teal's high school in the hotel that morning. They saw our Zips Soccer shirts and were wishing us well in the game that afternoon.

I agree Z.I.P. that I think Zakuani's overlook last year helped Teal this year. I also think Teal was helped by Akron being #1 in the NSCAA poll starting in week 1 (all but pre-season)...My understanding is the NSCAA, rather than the media (in the case of the Heisman), votes for the Hermann Trophy. I had a good feeling about this year because of Teal's performance, first and foremost of course, and these 2 factors. Best wishes to Teal and Go Zips!
