jupitertoo Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 Final from Athens: In OT , Ball St 67 Ohio 66. Two wins now for the Cardinals vs East opponents, and both on the road(Buf).John Groce has proven he can recruit, but the jury is still out on his ability to coach from the bench. He handed yesterday's game to BSU by failing to call two key timeouts in the closing moments of regulation and OT. And he had TOs available.1. With 30 seconds to go in regulation, Ohio's freshman point guard indicated he didn't know which play to run. Ended up dribbling the ball for 30 seconds and then throwing up a desperation 28 footer.2. In the OT session, OU was up 1 with the ball and 20 seconds to play. Had problems inbounding...and neither Groce nor the player called for a TO. 5-second call gives the ball to BSU, which promptly scores the winning basket.OU fans very, very angry. OU lost the Can't game at home in the same manner. It's like Groce freezes in crucial situations. Quote

Especially since the staff can call timeouts in college hoops. That's hard to take. Quote

Actually, there were like 7 seconds left when he shot it, which makes it that much worse.2. Groce was frantically trying to call a timeout. Refs did not recognize him. Quote
