Zips fan Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 It was great to see the student section alive and getting into the game. That was one of the larger and more vocal showing for the students I have seen in awhile. Hopefully, the win will bring a bigger crowd for the CMU game. Quote
Kangaroo Craig Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 I agree. They definitely showed up. Does anyone kinow why all of the seats behind the goal post were draped off? What happens if 30,000 show up? Will they open up those seats at the last minute, or turn fans away? Of course that would be a very good problem. Quote

It was one of the most active student crowds I have ever seen at a game. The answer to your question is no. As the Rubber Bowl continues to fall down, they are just going to cover up seats until there are none left. At that time, they will either need a new stadium or they will have to close up shop. Quote

Credit UAM for their work in getting them out to the game and showing them what a good time being a student at The University of Akron can be. I would like to see the students take it to another level next week. It back-and-forth "AK"..."ROWDIES" is a great start, but they can be more creative. Keep it up!! Also...it was heartwarming to see a few endzone students hoisting silver flasks in the crowd! Ahhhhh "Tradition never graduates." Quote
GP1 Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 This season, I heard of two promotions for other schools to get students into games that I thought would be great for Akron. The first one was at MTSU. All students swipe their student ID when they go into a game. At the middle of the fourth quarter (they must still be at the game to win), three names were picked and those students received White parking passes. I think these passes basically allow you to park anywhere on campus. Second, Miami is running a promotion that will give a student a free trip to any Miami away game with the team if the student attends 50 varsity athletic games. They also swipe their student ID to track this. These are great ideas and something the University should look at. Quote
