Z.I.P.
If anyone at the U of Akron is paying attention to this, I hope they will in fact try to design the new soccer stadium with view points of the campus and downtown in mind. However, they will still not be able to make it onto the list of the most scenic stadia on the planet. Anyone up for a game in the Faroe Isles? http://www.thebesteleven.com/2009/08/sceni...r-stadiums.htmlp.s.: I believe this website belongs to the BigSoccer blogger Bill Archer, who lists his address as Uniontown, OH. Anyone know him?
tbozeglav
Idunno about you, but I found this stadium to be AWESOMEhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Est%C3%A1dio_AXAhttp://en.wikiarquitectura.com/index.php?t...nicipal_Stadium (crappy english too)http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_menu/...municipal.shtmlI love the fact that it was built into the walls of a mountain, has entrance from the top on one side of the stadium. PLUS, it has a 54,000 sq ft room under the field where conventions and such are made, aside from providing a walkway between the two sides of the stadium. Truly a remarkable feat of engineering and an awesome piece of architectural design.
Spin
Those are great shots, but this is Akron.Do you really think Summit Lake is that scenic?
Dr Z
That stadium pictured is AWESOME. I noticed the scoreboard, that is the score I predicted for that game.Hire Gensler, they did PNC Park, it's a great view of a not so spectacular space. Somehow when you sit in PNC park the view of Pittsburgh is awesome (for what it is). It's easy when you have majestic mountains. It's not as easy in Akron. Possible, but it will take talent. vmd9
Cleveland vs Pittsburgh is like Can't vs AkronWe don't like each other and you have to be biased when talking about them. I don't care if their buildings were made of gold I would still call them a trashy city. Just like we make fun of Can't being hippies, stoners, etc...Cleveland is better than Pittsburgh and Akron is better than Can't. I have to trash a rival any chance I can! haha
zippy5
I don't know about that haha. I hate the sports teams, but I have a hard time hating a city...clevelands not bad, but I just think pittsburghs skyline is really neat.

scottditzen
Okay, here's my idea: Simply move the soccer field closer to the student center. The student center is an awesome building, and would work nicely in "framing" out the field, making the "stadium" look more substantial. And plus, imagine those second floor balconies overlooking the field on game day! Amazing. You would get some great use out of that space. There's already tables, great views, etc. It could be just like loge seating. And, this would bring the action closer to civilization. You wouldn't have to create new vending areas, bathrooms, etc. It is all pre-existing, already paid for. This, I think, would help lead to an amazing game day environment. Hey UA, steal this idea...it's a freebie.
