Men's Soccer vs. Cleveland State 3/7/10

Recommended Posts

The game is at 5:00 PM tomorrow inside CSU's Krenzler Dome.Is anybody going to this game? This is essentially the home game for this year's spring schedule thanks to the work on Lee Jackson Field.Does anybody know if the stands are covered by the dome? I don't want to drive up there only to find out that fans can't watch. Also, does CSU have parking in the area?

I made it, but I left a bit early. Kitchen is going to be a great player and he will have an immediate impact for the team. I think it was Kofi who had a hat trick and possibly more. The dome didn't cover the stands, so we were all right up on the sideline. The head referee's bizarre peacekeeping methods (think the penalty box and power plays from hockey) and coach Porter's shouting were worth the price of admission alone.

From GoZips.com ...Nagbe Nets Hat Trick in Exhibition OpenerCourtesy: Akron Media Relations Release: 03/07/2010CLEVELAND – Fueled by a hat trick from Darlington Nagbe, the University of Akron men's soccer team rolled to a 4-1 victory at Cleveland State Sunday at Krenzler Field. Thats great for Nag but I want to know about the one we gave up. Was it a great shot? or did Meeves just miss it? And how many Akron fans were in attendance?
There were about 100 Akron fans there. I don't think we could fit much more than that in the limited space. The goal happened with some weird circumstances surrounding it. First, Akron was playing with a man down because the referee decided to institute hockey-style penalty rules which meant that CSU has a sort of "power play" situation at the time. Then, the CSU player was offsides and the sideline official was waving his flag but the head ref didn't see it or chose to ignore it. The Akron coaches threw a fit, and the Akron fans were confused. The shot itself wasn't bad since the player was 1-on-1 with Meves.

how exactly were "hockey like" penalty rules enforced? I just don't get how that would even be possible for a ref to pull off.
Players were set to the bench for a set period of time if they mouthed off. Usually 5 minutes. The teams played a man down for that time.

and how did the ref get away with that?

Sepp Blatter has just announced that the new FIFA trial rules will now be added to this year's World Cup in South Africa. And he will be personally supervising the penalty box. Blatter stated this will help help prevent needless "professional fouls", and violations such as Thierry Henry's handball in qualifying which kept Ireland out of South Africa. Also, goalkeepers will be referred to as "net minders", and will wear colorful masks painted with scenes of their home countries.
