originalrowdy Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 OK guys - it's the elephant in the room.We all know we're deeper, as quick if not quicker, more experienced, and favored over WMU. The question is whether yesterday's extended play will affect less desirable outcomes tonight. Various WMU bloggers claim victory over the AK because of our OTs. My concern may not necessarily be tonight so much as, if and when, we win going into tomorrow. We all know how difficult it becomes for the teams that play four games in 6 days. We about played a whole other half yesterday evening. Thoughts? Quote

johnnyzip84 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Actually the Zips only played 1/2 of another 1/2 yesterday.2 x 5 minute OT periods = 10 total minutes20 minutes in one half10/20 = 1/2I'm more concerned with dings (Roberts in particular) than I am with fatigue. Quote
zippy5 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 We didn't get a bye last year (RE: one entire more game) aand we won the whole thing. moving on... Quote

No need to be an idiot. There certainly isn't.C. McKnight had very limited minutes because of foul trouble, and fouled out 5 minutes before the end of regulation.Cvetinovic same deal.B. McKnight also saw some foul trouble limiting his playing time in regulationThat's three main players that are more rested then the main players of WMU. Not only that, but the Broncos are also coming off an emotional come from behind win. Fatigue factor is going to be more even then you would think. Quote
Quickzips Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Lets look at it this way:Player Season Average EMUHumpty Hitchens 25.5 min. 40Steve McNees 32 min. 42Jimmy Conyers 32 min. 36Chris McKnight 20.5 min. 9Zeke Marshall 16.6 min. 35Brett McKnight 19 min. 31Daryl Roberts 24 min. 25Nikola Cvetinovic 21 min. 18Brett McClanahan 12.5 min. 12Ronnie Steward 6 min. 1Humpty, McNees, Brett McKnight and Zeke may be a little tired. Cvetinovic, Chris McKnight and Steward should all be pretty fresh having played less minutes than normal. Conyers, McClanahan, Roberts played pretty close to their average. I think in the end it will even out. I would expect to see a little more of Steward tonight (say around 10-12 minutes) and definitely more Cvetinovic and Chris McKnight. I think the only problem will come in if we start having the same guys get in foul trouble early again tonight or if we start going into multiple OT's again. Quote
Dave in Green Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Excellent analysis, Quickzips. Slightly more fatigue than normal may be a minor problem for some of the players. But this is exactly the situation where KD's strategy of playing deep into the bench really pays off.I think that fatigue would be a bigger factor if the Zips were coming back in tonight's game against a Buffalo or Ohio type team that pushes the ball harder. WMU's pace should be a little less stressful for the Zips. Here are the minutes played by the Zips when they beat WMU in Kalamazoo:CVETINOVIC, Nikola 19McKNIGHT, Chris 18CONYERS, Jimmy 23McNEES, Steve 27HITCHENS, Anthony 26STEWARD, Ronnie 8McCLANAHAN, Brett 15ROBERTS, Darryl 22McKNIGHT, Brett 19MARSHALL, Zeke 12BARDO, Mike 11Looking back at this game reminds me that it was Nitro's best game of the season (9 points, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 foul, 0 turnovers), so I would expect to see more minutes out of him tonight. This also reminds me that the Zips could have used some quality minutes from Bardo yesterday. The Zips may be missing his front line muscle more than some of his detractors might imagine. Quote
Dr Z Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 I wonder if the WMU 20 year old kids are going to be fatigued after playing 30 minutes of basketball 24 hours ago? Quote
Dave in Green Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 WMU playing time is a great point. Four of WMU's five starters had 39, 37, 37 and 34 minutes of PT yesterday. Quote

zip37 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 It's been a looooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggg time since i was 20 yrs old, but I can remember pulling an 8 hour shift, on my feet, and then playing football softball or basketball games or practicing w/o any problem. Quote
OZoner Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 They'll be fine. No reason to think fatigue should be a problem. Quote
akronzips71 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 They'll be fine. No reason to think fatigue should be a problem.I'm more concerned about an emotional let down. After that 3 by McNees, they were flying last night. Gotta keep some of that emotion for today and tomorrow. Quote
