jem101
I just drove past the stadium last night and the bleachers have disappeared. The press box however is still there. Not sure if they just had to raise up the ground under the bleachers so it was level with the rest of the field or if they are planning on completing the new seating this summer. Just thought I'd share this development. On another note, the new surface is almost two feet higher than the practice field. Drainage shouldn't be a problem this year! ZachTheZip
Yep. Bleachers are gone. There is a concrete drainage ditch surrounding the field now, and they also just poured some kind of concrete platform all along the top of the east hill, about 12 feet wide. I can't figure out what it's supposed to be and it doesn't appear in the renderings.

g-mann17
Article posted to Gozips.com. Phase 1 & 2 fully funded and apparently will be completed before fall.
ZachTheZip
I'm glad to be wrong about the amount of support they got.
ZachTheZip
Still, the design appears to have changed a bit compared to the original renderings. Can't wait to check it out on August 13th, when the lady Zips get to open the new stadium against Wright State.

They have a lot of work to do in less than 7 weeks.

Well considering it specifies "new look this fall" and "three season ticket seating options for the 2010 season" I just kind of assumed they would be building this summer. Johnny Utah
I received a call from the ticket office this afternoon for renewing my season tickets. There are 3 tiers of pricing - $90, $75 & $60. A couple of goodies are included with season tickets - 1) some type of beverage/food service on the club level of the Info for select games and 2) Scarves - but she didn't know if the scarves were going to be different from last year. tbozeglav
I am absolutely stunned to see they were able to get phase 2 in. This is really good news for the program because many of us though that phase 2 was due for next summer. I can't wait to see some more pictures of what this will look like. Spin
Why are they doing all this work? Spending all this money? If they don't completely change the sport, nobody's going to come to the games...
Zip Watcher
Why are they doing all this work? Spending all this money? If they don't completely change the sport, nobody's going to come to the games... Now see, you've changed forums. The issue @ UA is how to get rowdies to perform inside the JAR with the same vigor and numbers as they do at Lee Jackson. Now, THAT would be a home court advantage for the Zips! Go Zips! bandzip
Why are they doing all this work? Spending all this money? If they don't completely change the sport, nobody's going to come to the games... They built a new football stadium for a bottom of the heap MAC team when we couldn't fill up the Rubberbowl halfway, everyone wants a new arena when we can't fill the JAR except for the Can't game. Soccer sells out several home games, wins the regular season every year since 2005, the tournament every year since 05 except 06, loses on pks in the National Championship game and you wonder why they're getting a new stadium? Spin
I was being sarcastic about another thread. If you scroll back a few months I was the biggest advocate of the soccer program getting a new stadium. I won't go into the whole schpeal again about not being able to get a ticket on Tuesday afternoon for a Saturday game, well-to-do soccer fans sitting in the mud, the port-a-jon, as it's all moot now, those problems are being addressed. I applaud the U. It's fun to be on campus watching the progress of the construction. I can't wait for the season to start!!!
scottditzen
Ha ha Spin....I've decided after fifteen years of inter-netting, there truly needs to be a universal "sarcasm" font for online discussion! Z.I.P.
They laid down about 2/3 of the turf. A little bird told me, new stands will be constructed prior to this season. What that entails, I'm not sure. Little bird may have more to share. Will keep my head covered. --edit-- Nevah mind!!!
