ZachTheZip
http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/88964192.html Some good news and some bad news: On Tuesday, Ianello announced one positive and one negative development relating to personnel. He said tailback Alex Allen has been granted a rare sixth-year of eligibility by the NCAA. Allen missed all of 2006 with a knee injury and most of 2008 with a hip injury. He returned for his senior season in 2009 but was not fully recovered, which prompted the NCAA to give him another year. On the negative side, linebacker Aaron Williams has left school and will not return, Ianello said. Williams, a highly regarded recruit in 2007, started the first six games last season as a sophomore, recording 34 tackles, before suffering a broken arm against Buffalo on Oct. 17. johnnyzip84
Mike Ward moving from guard to center is an interesting development. One has to wonder how many shotgun snaps we'll see, if any.
Blue & Gold
As someone mentioned before in another thread, I'm surprised about Aaron Williams leaving. He really seemed like a team leader. I guess he just really liked JD?

I guess he just really liked JD? Or maybe he wasn't fully recovering from his injury. I don't understand why a returning starter would leave the program... ZachTheZip
Randy Greenwood is moving from Safety to Corner. I think it's a more natural position for him.
Blue & Gold
Greenwood's a decent-sized corner. That'll be refreshing to see. Also, props to the ABJ and Tom Gaffney for the great Zips coverage. No sooner had the basketball season ended that they're beginning coverage of spring practice. And running a story on the opening day of spring drills to boot! That's quality coverage! Thanks Tom! Keep us informed!

ZachTheZip
You think that with Aaron Williams gone the coach will look to find someone to take up that scholarship? Or will they award it to a walk-on like Larry Dawson?

He is part of some deal through a local attorney that awards a number of scholarships to inner city kids. He goes to school for free as long as he maintains a 3.0 or better. That's a cool program. But I really do wonder about the extra scholarship and any others that might open up over the course of spring practice. Looking at Rivals, there are some good recruits at positions we need help at who have yet to verbal to a school and have an offer from Akron. scottditzen
Huh, I wonder if the natural result is to choose the easiest classes. I know I wouldn't want to be challenging myself too much if it risked losing a scholarship. You think that with Aaron Williams gone the coach will look to find someone to take up that scholarship?
