GP1
I know it's WAY early, but here it goes... Christmas in San Diego = Good New Years in Nashville = Good = Tootsies Orchid Lounge Day after Christmas in Detroit = Good, I'd take anything. http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2005/Bo...Projections.htm
Quickzips
It may be a posibility, and it is nice to dream. However, I will withhold my plane tickets for a little while. The way this team goes we could run the table the rest of the way or go 0-3. Lets not start holding our breathes yet.
msopher
Winning at Ball St. is tough. Just ask Toledo fans.
InTheZone
I have no doubt in my mind that we are going to smack the &*%^ out of Ball St. What they did last week was a fluke and much more a result of NIU not showing up to play like we did against Army then anything else. OU is the only team left on our schedule that can beat us but they won't, simply because we're Akron and they're OU.
InTheZone
I'm hoping for an at large berth to somewhere like Nashville or San Diego. Mobile is kinda small and still recovering from the hurricane and Detroit is cold and just no fun. It would pretty much have to be a situation like last year though where there aren't enough bowl eligible teams to fill all the slots. Buckzip
I would just love to see them in a bowl game. The nationl exposure. The extra practice time. The extra experience. All of this could do wonders for the future of the program.

GP1
Question....If NIU wins today, Akron wins tomorrow and Akron loses to NIU in the MACC, then do we go bowling? I have no idea how the contracts work with the bowls the MAC is associated, but my guess is there will be a way to get screwed.

I think they have to take the winner of the Mac championship game, but not the loser. They could take BG at 6-5.

That would make the second year in a row we were passed over by a bowl for a team we beat. I really can't blame the bowls though, because the purpose of a bowl committee is to draw teams that bring big crowds to a city for a few days so the town can make some money. Does anyone really think Akron would take a big crowd to a game? It would be worse than the horrible crowd Miami took to the Indy Bowl last year. It is what it is....Until the Rubber Bowl is flattened so the people of Akron have a decent place to go watch a game and they draw big crowds, or we can win the conference championship, this will always be the case. I would just be happy to go to the championship game. I mean really, when has Akron ever gone to Ford Field for the MAC championship? And with the team we have this year, we would probably get destroyed in a bowl game anyway. Maybe if our record was better, like say, winning games we were supposed to win, we could have made a stronger case because we beat both NIU and BG. However, we still need to keep building a team, and a MAC championship appearance is just another tool JD could use to bring in the right guys to help generate excitement in this area. We do, however, need to get moving on this stadium. At least give us an indicator that this will fall through, and I don't mean through the floor. The rubber bowl is an embarasment, and only hurts our image.
GP1
While I agree a bowl game would result in an ass kicking, the extra weeks of practice are needed for this team to move forward to next year. A bowl is also a reward for a good season. We did have a good season, much better than most expected, and I think the players and coaches have earned a bowl considering their talent level. If we continue to have good seasons with no bowl at the end, at what point does winning become irrelevant? Look around the league. What do BGSU, Miami, Toledo and NIU all have in common? They all went to bowl games last year. They have a recent history of going to bowl games. They not only have a player development advantage, but they also have a recruiting advantage over most of the league. If we continue to get screwed by bowls, we will always be the team hoping for a miracle at the end of the season. The new fieldhouse will only go so far in recruiting. Players want to compete and go to bowl games much more than practicing in a new fieldhouse and playing in a New Deal Era dump. Not going to a bowl game would be the ultimate . After reading this post, I am certain NIU is going to win today and Akron will beat Can't tomorrow. Playing NIU at a neutral field spells disaster for Akron and we will get passed over. The tune is "Happy Days are Here Again". Everyone sing now!!!!! Bitter days are here again, The sky above is snowing again, Grab a blanket and start shiverin', Bitter days are here again...... Zip Watcher
Some of you guys amaze me. The Zips are standing at the doorstep of having the opportunity to play NIU for the MAC CHAMPIONSHIP. An NIU team that the Zips beat early in the season. All you can talk about is how "we'll get killed in a bowl game anyway" and "we won't beat NIU in a neutral site" and "woe is us the Zips Nation, forever doomed to be pissed upon." Wake UP and read your papers, Zips Fans! You need 2 REASONABLE things to take place, and your Zips are playing for a MAC Football title in a little over a week. You can't win championships unless you put yourselves in position to play for the championship. The ZIps are in that position for the second straight season. Let's all put our Turkey's in the crock pot and head out for a championship play in on Thursday. Gotta play the games fellas. The Zips are currently: 1. MAC Men's Soccer champs .. poised to compete for a NATIONAL Title. 2. Poised to become MAC East Co-Champs in football and play for the LEAGUE Title. 3. Picked by many to contend seriously for the Mens Basketballl MAC Title. Isn't that what we all want? Compettition at the highest level? Seems to me that's what Thomas and company have provided. Can we enjoy the ride, or should we just hunker down and wait for it to end miserably? Geeze ... reading some of these posts makes me want to rename the site EEYORE Nation.Org. Z-Pouch
Thanks ZW. It was getting pretty deep around here but you hit it square on. Isn't this where we want to be ? Forget about how we got here, on the surface, it will look great. It's time to celebrate, play the games and see what happens but we are finally in the hunt(s). That's a good starting point
