Dr Z
I know it's been posted here before, but will we EVER see Akron in headline number four? Link ------------------------------------------------ AKRON, Ohio -- LeBron James' hometown is throwing him a big party. Nobody knows if it's a farewell bash yet. James' contributions to Akron will be celebrated on Saturday at "LeBron Appreciation Day," an event organized by community leaders to show the local superstar how much he is loved as he approaches free agency. The three-hour rally is being held at InfoCision Stadium on the University of Akron's campus, across from Rhodes Arena, where James accepted his second straight NBA MVP award last month. Organizers said James is aware of the event, but don't know if he'll attend. James can become a free agent on July 1 and consider offers from the Cleveland Cavaliers and other teams. He is not expected to announce his plans before hitting the free-agent market.
RootforRoo44
Not a very well written article, it's kind of missing some important information. But nevertheless i hope this thing isn't a huge failure, i know i'll be going.
ZachTheZip
I'll be going, as well. I'm treating it as a farewell party more than a suck-up session. My hope is that he goes somewhere but keeps his ties with Akron, and cuts them with Cleveland. It's the best thing for this city to be recognized on its own and not get lumped in with the nexus of failure to the north.

What would it be like without the Cleveland Clinic and Case up there? Scary to think about. I agree, anything Akron can do to separate and distinguish itself is a good thing. Dr Z
I'm dressing up as Lebron, renting a limo and driving around the block taking donations to "stay in Cleveland"

I hope it is a huge failure and if I still lived in Ohio, I would go to watch....then I would go get drunk at BW3. What they should really do, since LBJ isn't going to be there, is have sort of a Mardi Gras parade across the field at The Big Dialer. The Grand Marshal could be the last living Cleveland fan who actually remembers the last time a Cleveland team won a championship. Floats of all sorts could be made. One could be of Mayor Don kissing LBJ's butt. One could be of the mayor of Cleveland kissing LBJ's butt. Another could be an economic impact calculator of LBJ leaving the Cavs. A missing entry would be the float of LBJ's NBA Championship ring. All the while, The Pretenders song Back to Ohio would be playing over the speakers.
ZachTheZip
Remember our old pal Jim Tressel, the author of the foreword of the only book about Akron football? He's going to be making a speech on the Info's jumbotron.

ZachTheZip
I wonder if UA gets some rental fee for use of the stadium. I wouldn't charge too much. This is free publicity for the stadium. I do hope they fixed the chunks of concrete missing at the spring game.

That person won't be buying a ticket to watch the Zips play.
