Dr Z Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Is it just me, or is this the coolest mark I have seen at the University. I didn't notice it until Z-Pouch was using it for his icon. Where are the hats? Where are the shirts? Where is the banner at the Rubber Bowl or JAR? Where is the Billboard on 76 or 8? I would love to see the students wear shirts in the student section with this on it. I love this thing. Quote
Z-Pouch Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Absolutely -- I like Zippy for the kids but this is a Roo with an attitude. I'd like to see more of it. It kinda just got slipped into GoZips without much fanfare. Maybe a BB thing for the AK-Rowdies ? Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 This was a mark that the athletic depatment favored a couple years back, but it was shot down but those outside U of A athletics. Those same folks who love the University sunflower license plate seal? Probably. Hope to see more of it. It is cool. What will happen if the Zips face the Terps in the soccer finals? Fear the Roo vs. Fear the Turtle!! I am told the "Fear the..." campaign was initiated by Walt Disney Corp a few years back as "Fear the Mouse." Maryland adopted it with their "Fear the Turtle" campaign. They do a lot of neat things with it. It will be fun to see if U of A takes the "Fear the Roo" and accompanying logo to the next level? Ryno aka Menace Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 Man I love it I am making it my desktop right now!!!! Quote
Zipsrifle Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 THAT IS AWESOME! UAM seriously needs to start pushing this stuff, especially for the Soccer team! Put me down for 2 T-Shirts! FEAR THE ROOOOOOOO! Quote
UA Fan Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 another reason to fear the roo (or the 'ru) ! http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/st...5E10048,00.html Quote
Z.I.P. Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 Where do I apply to receive my royalties? I remember first using this phrase here just before last year's NCAA regional matchup versus the li'l tortuses of Maryland. Now they have the image on the fence at Lee Jackson -- which looked great on national TV on Fox CSP today. But UAM -- make that T-shirt tomorrow and I'll have one in time for the Cal trip. So Cool! Zipsrifle Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 You know what, I think we've got something. IMO, we really needed something cool to say when we got a first down. MAYBE THIS IS IT! Announcer: And that's another Akron First Down! FANS: Fear....The.... ROOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What do ya think??? Quote
Z-Pouch Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 FYI - Saw this on Ohio.com. They have a writer from the Buchtelite (Mike Rasor) who runs a Zips Blog on the site -- He usually has a little more insight then DLM which is not all that difficult. Anyway, looks like those caps, shirts, and sweatshirts may be coming soon. November 12, 2005 Fear the Roo The UA Athletic Dept will begin a campaign called "Fear the Roo" much the same way Maryland has the "Fear the Turtle." The people at the athletic department have an unenviable task: unite a commuter campus around mediocre sports teams (with the exception of men's soccer). They are full of original ideas that would be resounding successes at Duke or Ohio State. Here, it's not so simple. Students go home after classes on weekdays and most have never spend one Saturday on campus. Anyhow, I've learned there are very few new ideas. It's not bad to swipe a successful idea from someone else. This men's basketball season, MAC teams should Fear the Roo. For women's basketbal, um... uhhhh.... FEAR THE ROO! Quote

They'll be available at the start of the hoops season. Also good to see Rasor frequents this site. He should forward the link to DL Morgan. Quote
Quickzips Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 It is true. I checked with the JAR team shop yesterday and "Fear the Roo" gear is currently on order and should be in soon. The student at the team shop even knew exactley what I was talking about. Surprisingly enough. Edit: She also mentioned that the "Fear the Roo" logo will also be on the back of the Soccer MAC Championship shirts. Quote
Dr Z Posted November 16, 2005 Author Report Posted November 16, 2005 Where is the banner at the Rubber Bowl or JAR? I'm not sure if it was the first time or not, but I saw a "Fear the Roo" banner in front of the beer garden last night. My apologies to whomever if this was not the first time. Quote
NWLB Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Odd, I used "fear the roo" nearly five years ago, I should demand a bit of the action! Quote
