Zipmeister
Potential coverage and high population still has many more benefits than cows and trees. As an aside, cbssports claims to have a source stating CUSA has already contacted Temple. Why did CUSA call Temple, did they want to know if Temple was going to enjoy being in the Big East? Another reason why doing nothing is the best decision right now. These schools are grasping for straws. It's really sad in many ways. ZachTheZip
There's been lots of talk on the MAC and Sunbelt boards of the MAC taking a look at Arkansas State. Not a bad pick-up as far as football is concerned, and they're not as far away from the MAC West as you might think. In fact, they're closer to the MAC than to the new-look Sunbelt they're stuck in. stAte wants out of the Sunbelt really badly right now. It's no longer the conference they signed up for. legendofzippy
Unfortunately, for this move, we are dependent on Cleveland tv actually covering us. This should give us many sleepless nights. I don't think they would, for they never have. It means they would be required to validate something in the region outside of Cleveland. In the past they've always refused to do that. Yeah I don't get the market argument either. The Northeast Ohio market is way too varied for us to claim it's an Akron market. First off, most everyone is an Ohio State fan, and football trumps every sport. Newsflash - we suck at football. Then if you're an Akron fan, it's likely because you went there. Even at that, Can't has a claim to the same area. Plus look at all the OU alums in the area, and there are plenty of Miami alums too. We're a MAC school and the MAC is actually doing pretty well for a small conference. Why leave? Marshall was much higher profile as a top MAC school than what they are now. GP1
Rejoice! ACC Grant of Rights should halt conference realignment Thanks for posting K92. Never surprises me when I read an article about college athletics and the word "silliness" is used in the first paragraph. The only word that would make me less shocked would be "insanity". GP1
Is next college sports realignment a split from NCAA? I saw this today and thought of you, GP1. Thanks for posting. Great read. I thought we were at least five years from people talking as publicly as they now are about this. It's simple logic. The job of the NCAA is not to regulate a professional sports league. A super conference would be a professional sports league. There is no place for the NCAA if there is a super conference. If the non super conferences capture some sanity during this period, there is a place for the NCAA in that framework. The NCAA is a member organization. The reason the NCAA is insane is because the members have gone insane with the "building process". I want the University to be a member of a sane organization somewhere between bcs and 1AA. When we regain our sanity, things will become better. Until then, mAClike conferences will remain irrelevant. Did I mention playing football in the spring so we could at least get noticed by the United States?

Mike Slive Rattles Saber Over Player Stipends Slive: schools could discuss NCAA "division" over stipends Thanks for your continued posting on this issue K92. A separate division would be the best thing for us. What doesn't work for me as a reason not to do it is paying taxes on revenue. They won't have to pay taxes if they spend all revenues at the end of the year. Years ago, I posted about the separation on this board and was called crazy. Wait until you folks are going to watch the Zips play football in the spring and you will really see crazy.
