AK-Zips
The Department of Athletics is taking as many students as they can on buses to the game for free! All they have to do is register in the ticket office or call 1-888-99-AKRON by Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. to get a free trip to the MACC! Buses leave at noon on Thursday and will come back directly after the game. C'mon students, let's show the support of a MAC champion this Thursday in Detroit! The game is on ESPN, not ESPN 2 or ESPN U, but freaking ESPN! Broadcast in HD where available and is a great opportunity to showcase what our school is all about. Representing our school in the BIGGEST GAME IN HISTORY is what we have to do! It is your mission to go this game and make the University of Akron a staple in major collegiate athletics! Go Zips! ...and as we saw on Thanksgiving
WPIAL
The free ride and tickets for the students is a great thought by UAM. However, I think that this will really emphasize how bad the Zips' fans are in supporting their team. When the Akron crowd is sparse in Detroit it will certainly look bad for Akron. To compound that black eye will be the fact that the students were given a free ride and free ticket and still didn't want to go. The Zips representing the East is the MAC Office's worst nightmare. I'll bet Rick Chryst is mortified by the prospect of this match up to showcase the MAC. The ugly step sister has crashed the party.
Quickzips
Being a student I was just about resigned to watching it from my room on ESPN when I hadn't seen anything on a good student fare for getting there (for a student such as myself the rates presented by the AD are not praticularly feasible). If this is indeed true I may just have to make the trip up there. Needless to say I'm calling the ticket office tomorow.

Go back to Can't or wherever school you are from, and don't crash our party. The Zips are in the MAC!!!! That's all I care about.
mnhouse
the ticket office will be open at 8:30 a.m. to fill those student requests! Get the word out! Oh and by the way WPIAL, each school is given 3000 tickets for students anyway! Which is given to both teams... thanks for trying to put down our attendance once again.... but look at it this way... YOUR TEAM ISN'T PLAYING FOR THE MACC, BUT WE ARE!!!

RACER
the problem with attendance for this game is it's during the week ,and a non campus site. if the game was at u of akron it would be 25+ there. except for toldeo and the three michigan schools detroit is a bad place if it's during the week. the mac is selling the game during the week because it's on espn; which we will be good exposure for our program. unlike the thanksgiving game; which should have been on espn. we were replaced by poker(repeat). how the hell is poker sport beats me?espn needs to get a clue. go zips!!!!!! zipboy
I am biased but I think that Rick Chryst is pleasantly surprised. The MAC is only as strong as all of its teams. NIU and Toledo are the only 2 programs who consistenly draw very well even in down years. For as good as BG and Miami are, they just are not in big areas. Everyone ripped on NIU and then they started winning and are now a cornerstone program for the league. We have not had much to brag about before, but if Akron got seriously good, they would be the NIU of the East. We are a big enough area where 20-25K could be the norm for attendance. We are not going to get there by going 4-7 every year. Everyone will be pleasantly surprised next year with the jump in attendance. I look for a good crowd to go to Detroit but not a great crowd. Put it in perspective though, if Akron played Can't at the Q, we would get 18K. IF BG played Toledo, we would get around 10K for the title game. Proximity does play a part. Next to BG, we will bring as many or more fans from the East to Detroit.

If the game were played at Akron there would 25+ in attendance. I don't think you are giving the Zips' fans enough credit. They may well draw over 150 people. 25+ seems a little low to me. even for the Zippers

Quickzips
I just called the ticket office to check on this. It is in fact true. Starting Monday at 8:30AM students can go to the ticket office and present their zipcard and get a voucher to get on the busses at noon on Thursday. The trip and the ticket will be free. UA Fan
Why would UAM sponsor this and not post it on gozips? I'm not calling you a liar but this ain't making sense.
Quickzips
I don't know, but that is direct from the ticket office. I'm a student so I'm real interested in this. So long as I can find someone to keep me company on the bus ride up there I'm gonna take advantage of this. Here is what I was told. Student vouchers go "on sale" Monday at 8:30 in the JAR ticket office. Present your student ID, you get a voucher to get on the bus. The bus leaves at noon on Thursday for Detroit. Bus ticket is free. Game ticket is free for the student section. Bus leaves after the game is over to come back to Akron Thursday night. Again, free ticket. No idea why UAM is not promoting this more. Haven't even seen it in my student e-mail account. UAM REALLY needs to pump this up here. If it is true that there will only be 3000 tickets for students then we need to get all 3000 seats accounted for.
Hilltopper
They announced it at the BB game tonight also. Lets hope the ABJ makes some noise about this game.
Zipsrifle
OK, OK. What have we been saying for eternity over here? Build a winning program and the attendance will go up. There we are, we finally broke through, and we're getting ripped on for an attendance number that doesn't even exist. IF the attendance is low at the MACC, I DON'T CARE!! The fact that we made it there is another step in building the future attendance! I hope to see a good crowd, I hope 3000 students show up. We all know what's in the pipeline for the next few years, and to make it to the MACC on a "Rebuilding" year is HUGE Bottom line is we're making the progress needed to turn this program into NE Ohio's team! RACER
zipsrifle your exactly right.this is just step towards building a fan base.how many mac teams have (even decent )attendance at home.maybe toldeo, niu,ou.none travel well. a few thousand fans to an away game is nothing compared to some big ten teams. akron needs to keep winning and the fans will show up. a new stadium would help, but only if the team wins.the marketing dept is at least trying to do some good things with buses/ free tickets to the mac championship game.akron won- the kids deserve to go no matter how many people show up. if other fans of mac teams don't like it. to bad.
