RootforRoo44 Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Surprised there is no thread for tonight's game. But... Awesome performance by the Zips tonight. 22-2 shots10-0 shots on goal10-0 cornersDarren Mattocks with a hat trick!Just a heck of a game and a great time. I took a buddy of mine to his first Akron sporting event ever tonight (he's an alumni!) and he had a blast. He even went and bought tickets for Tuesday already. Any other thoughts on the game? Kind of shocked at the lack of media coverage for the game. I'm sure the beacon was busy covering the Flushes and Suckeyes though. Quote

Kind of shocked at the lack of media coverage for the game. I'm sure the beacon was busy covering the Flushes and Suckeyes though. A fair number of undevoted Rowdies stayed home to watch the Suckeyes choke <gack, gack> on a big one. I got home in time watch the desperate failings of the sweater man as his stooges, er, players, just could not pull it out. Say, how did the flushers do? Wait, no one cares. It was a fine pounding the futbolers put on a mediocre (sad to say) Buffalo side. Quote
skip-zip Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Yep. I really don't expect the media to be too interested in a Akron soccer game on a Saturday night against a bad opponent. But, I was stunned at the poor showing by UA students last night. However, it was entertaining watching OSWho get their butts kicked. I think they were already going to get a serious wake-up call about their lack of good competition when the BCS standings came out today, but this was enjoyable nonetheless. Now, we have to worry a lot less about them stealing all of the news coverage and fan support from the LOCAL D-1 COLLEGE now that their national title hopes are gone. Quote
ZippyforPresident Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Mattocks was awesome! And to think he's only a freshman. That one goal off of the corner kick was crazy! Quote
ZachTheZip Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 I was glad to see the Zips get back to playing the style we are used to seeing. The past couple of games, the Zips players held on to the ball too long which gave the other teams chances to disrupt the play and regain posession. But last night the Zips were constantly passing to the open man, just shredding Buffalo's defense. We should do the same thing to Michigan on Tuesday. Quote
Zip_ME87 Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Great quote from Caleb Porter in Michael Beaven's article on Ohio.com: ''It is rewarding to see that after five years we are where we wanted to be. When I came here, the vision was to get to this point and here we are with a team that is capable of beating anybody in the country and doing it in a way that is attractive. I wish we would have won more than 79 out of 100, to be honest to you, but that is pretty good. Overall, it shows the consistency we have had over the past five years playing a difficult schedule. We don't play a cupcake schedule. We play the best teams in the country.'' http://www.ohio.com/sports/105125474.html Quote
