MDZip Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I read that the Zips just tied the Indiana record for going unbeaten in conference (28 games, 26-0-2), hopefully we set that record when we play Hartwick, so I was looking through the MAC's Mens Soccer Record Book. I was expecting to see UA all over the place (and I do) but just how dominant is amazing. Caleb has done an incredible job but the team was no slouch before him. The Zips started MAC soccer in 1993. The have never finished below second place in all of that time and only once lost more than 1 league game (they lost two in 2000 and finished in a four way tie for first anyway). Their cumulative league total over that time is 87-10-6 for an over .900 winning percentage. On average the Zips lose OR tie just once a year in the MAC. There can't be too many more sports that dominate their leagues the way the Zips have dominated MAC soccer. Just a few more points of pride for the best team we have on campus. Worth a look. Quote
yazan07 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Yeah I'd say we're pretty dominant against MAC teams but really that doesn't say a whole lot because of how sub par most of those teams are. What I am more proud of/impressed by is the fact that we beat what was the number 2 team in the nation 4-0 and that we embarassed a Big 10 team 7-1. But to drive your point home, here is an article about post season projections that I think you will all find informative and hilarious Quote

MDZip Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 As another example, Top Drawer Soccer lists the top players from each conference. If you scroll down, the Zips have the top 11 players and 12 of the first 13, meaning that Top Drawer considers the first person of Akron's bench to be better than all but one other player in the entire conference. That's dominance. Quote
MDZip Posted November 12, 2010 Author Report Posted November 12, 2010 And one final piece of evidence, All-MAC teams came out - Zips swept player (Nagbe), newcomer (Mattocks) and coach (think you can figure that one out) of the year, and took 9 of the 11 spots on the all-conference team (Chris Korb also made second team, mostly due to the fact they selected only three defenders for the first team).
