Dr Z
As the season started many wondered if Luke could fill, or even come close to filling Charlie's shoes. He was up against a lot, new offensive line, new receivers and he had to prove he could shake off the rust from sitting. Well the regular season has come to an end and I think it's time to look at a comparison. I think only the Thanksgiving day winds kept Luke from getting those 37 yards he needed to pass Frye's passing yards. Two more games Luke ! GP1
After the start of the season, I didn't think there would be anyway Getsy would not pass for over 3,000 yards. He went through a period in the season where he was horrible...at best. I would be interested to know from someone like InTheZone how bad his hand was after the CMU game and for how long. For about a three week stretch after that, he could not have thrown the ball into the ocean. Now is the chance for all of you who wanted to bench Getsy, and you know who you are, to admit you were wrong. Couldn't wait for basketball to start? Did you see that game Saturday? Benching Getsy would have created such a loss of confidence in the team, they would not have recovered. If Ferg played and things did not work out, then what? Play a freshman next year? No way! This team does not need a circus like the one we saw with the Browns the past few years with Holcomb and all the nonsense that went along with that situation. It's time to win now and Getsy obviously provided the best chance to win. I need this question answered though. How come with similar numbers last year, those of you who wanted Getsy benched were not wanting Frye replaced last year when they started out 1-4? I would never have replaced Frye last year for the same reason I would never have replaced Getsy this year. Get refocused guys. JD is the guy to take this team into the future and he knows what he is doing. Have a little confidence. Stop picking on a play here and there, making it out to be bigger than what it really is. Making it to the conference championship after two years is called doing a good job. Our future is looking up! In fact, I think we are going to get a good taste of the future on Thursday night. Try to have some fun.
Quickzips
Sorry GP1, but you can't tell me that a hurt Getsy (if that was the problem) is better than anyone else on our roster. Also I feel that a lot of the reason why we are in the MACC is that we finally stopped trying to throw 40+ times a game and realized that if we put the load on Biggs' shoulders good things would happen. Getsy still hasn't done anything to really impress me. That said I am impressed that we've realized that Getsy doesn't need to be impressive. Hell Trent Dilfer won a Superbowl. A stud QB isn't always necessary if you are committed to a good ground game.

A stud QB isn't always necessary if you are committed to a good ground game. You hit the nail right on the head. A good balanced attack on offense and a strong overall defense is the best recipe for success. Couple this with good play calling and it keeps your opponent on their heels and guessing all of the time.
Z-P
Much as I hate do do it, I've got to give it up a little to GP here. This is Luke's first season. You've got to compare him later...........next year will be better. Also, JD is pretty "close to the vest" if you know what I mean. Perhaps Luke was hurting more than we know, and nothing was let out from the club about it.
Dr Z
Getsy still hasn't done anything to really impress me. 400 yards and 5 Tds against the MAC West Champs wasn't impressive?

Try to have some fun. GP, I honestly think the hand only affected Getsy for maybe the next one or two games. It wasn't a serious injury, just one of those annoying injuries that you'd rather not play with but is bearable. What I do think it did was throw him completely out of rhythm and destroyed his confidence for a while. I don't think getting booed at the Rubber Bowl helped. I'll be the first to admit that I wanted to see Ferguson for a while, but JD made the right call by not making a switch and that's why he's the coach and we're not. I think he's getting his rhythm and swagger back now, and just at the right time!! It's time to put another 400 yards on NIU. See ya'll at the game!! Zipsrifle
Yea, you've got to admit I was ready to give Fergie a try mid-season too. But, that's why I'm not a coach. JD gets paid a lot of money for knowing football. He sees these kids everyday of the week and makes the call based on a lot more factors than what we see for 30min a week. Lets hope Luke has the Force today! Go Zips!
Quickzips
Getsy still hasn't done anything to really impress me. 400 yards and 5 Tds against the MAC West Champs wasn't impressive? Not when he goes out and lays an egg for the next month after that game. Championships are based on consistency, and to be honest, if I knew nothing about the MAC and looked at the box scores from our games this year and saw how incosistent we have been I would say no way we were in the MACC. Not complaining about being there. Just saying, if we want to get back we are going to have to learn to be more consistent and Getsy at the reigns really scares me in that aspect. Praticularly since Biggs will not be behind him next season.
