ATTENDANCE: 5,216

I remember saying earlier in the season that the soccer team could beat the football team in attendance, there's the magic number.

Not even CLOSE to the real attendance.

Anyway, good win. Definitely good to escape being 0-12. The officials almost handed Buffalo the game though in the fourth. WOW was that bad.

I remember saying earlier in the season that the soccer team could beat the football team in attendance, there's the magic number.

Maybe, if you are generous, 15-20% of that.

I will say about 75% of the crowd was on the home side (lots of the seniors families in attendance and they all sat on that side) which isn't shown in that pic. But that still puts the crowd around 1.5 thousand and that's being generous. Maybe you get to 2.5k counting the gameday crew, both teams and coaches, food vendors, security, and the like.

Still, nowhere near the announced attendance. But what do you expect from a game with the teams having a combined 2-20 record going in? People would much rather be shopping today.

No use in arguing over the attendance. It was a bone chilling day with two horrible teams with the only thing on the line being a winless season. The fans that were there yesterday are the true fan base.

I don't think I'll ever move near the South endzone again during a game. I did that during the GW game and we blew it. After visiting the team shop to warm up, with the game "out of reach" with about 3:00 left, I stood near that end and we started to blow it. I quickly moved near midfield and things started to get better. Maybe UA should just upgrade my tickets to midfield and we'll go 13-0 next year? I'm just say'n........

Thank you to the Seniors. If this is the coach to build the program, then remember, you guys are the foundation. It wasn't easy to go through the turmoil of a new coach AND have a horrible Senior season. But, you stuck with it and in my book, those are the people you want on your team throughout life.

I will remain optimistic for next season and give this coach some time. I hope these kids have that fire deep down inside and really get after things in the off season.

I was shocked at the amount of people tailgating in Lot 9. Seriously.

I've been to a lot of end of the year tailgates where it was me, CK, and the guy with the fire by the fence at the Rubber Bowl.

'Lot Niners™' (I might make shirts next year) are serious about their Zip football. :thumb:

We wont all agree on whether Rob I is the coach to take the Zips to a bowl game/Mac title. But the fact is they were better the last 3 or 4 weeks with the fewest scholarship players (51? ) in D1 football. Another fact is we cant afford tofire him and pay him off for at least 3 years ( not saying I advocate that!). We finished 5th in a lousy conference where the diference between 1st and last isnt much. thats not saying much but you have to start somewhere. Now comes the real test- see how I coach can recruit. Im an optomist yes but I cant help but notice the similarities between Miami last year and Akron this year. New coach , former ND asst., not much of a fan base, 1-11 record. I wasnt impressed by Miami last week against us but they are 8-4, going to the MAC championship (to get demolished by NIU), and then to a bowl game. Can we aspire to attempt the same? I might add that perhaps UA athletic marketing could learn a lesson from this season- that goes for ticket prices, parking policies, and promotions.

When I saw the Zips won yesterday, I had an huge sense of relief come upon me. While I was happy too, there was more relief than happy. I can't tell you guys how big of a disaster going 0-12 would have been for the program. The mental attitude of players, coaches, administrators and fans are crushed after a winless season and it would have been hard to overcome the record. Try recruiting to an 0-12 program.

I know 1-11 is terrible and by no means do I think the win yesterday was part of any "building process" the program is going through. We avoided a disaster and should be happy for that today. In reality, they Zips should have never lost to Ball State and GW, but they did and we are what we are.

Every other team can turn themselves around quickly and the Zips could do the same thing. Everyone needs to get to work and get this program headed to a winning season next year. Miami did it, we can too.

Guess the outside observers aren't quite as optimistic as those so happy about a win over a pathetic Buffalo team. In fact, Wistrcill is targeted as being "hoodwinked."

As for this talk about Ianello's so-called recruiting prowess, I recall Lee Owens having quite a few UA players head to pro careers. Should we label him a recruiting guru, as well? Or just a better coach of talent? Or both? Hmm. Like the article says, Wistrcill should've read the book, not just looked at the cover.

Awesome post ZRifle. As another one of the 500 or so people at the game yesterday, I couldn't have been happier for the graduating members of the team to finally get a hard earned W. Keep fighting. Never give in.
