jem101 Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Awesome! I had an ear to ear smile while watching that. Well done guys! Quote
zips4ever2008 Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 That is so awesome. I was smiling the whole time. With all this snow, wish I was out in Santa Barbara. GO ZIPS! Quote
Dave in Green Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 That's an absolutely spectacular video. I hope it makes it into the victory celebration back in Akron. The quality is really good for a backlit video at sunset. Quote

The Hip Zip Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Was that TW at the end? Sure looked like him. And not a visual that I wish to associate with our National Championship. LOL Thanks Meatwad, Just a priceless video !! Please forgive me if I edit those last couple of seconds out ! Quote

bobbyake Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 I gained some respect for TW after watching this. As much as I dislike him for hiring iCan'tcoach, he has done an amazing job supporting Zips Soccer with renewing Coach Porter's contract and improving Lee Jackson Stadium Quote
Valpo Zip Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 We seriously have a huge whining/hating issue on this board. TW deserves a lot of credit for this national championship. Moreover, I have a lot of respect for an athletic director who takes off his suit and jumps in the ocean to celebrate with his student-athletes. Would you give the man a chance? Quote

ZippyforPresident Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Thank you for posting that meatwad, it was just amazing to see such a celebration after a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! Also, I'm in the skhorbotly camp. I've met TW for a brief passing second and he really did seem genuine. Lets just enjoy this, this team deserves all the credit in the world for what they've accomplished! Akron is brimming with pride right now! This is an accomplishment that lends hope and optimism to the entire community! GO AKRON! GO ZIPS! SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS! Quote
mes102 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I agree with everyone on that said TW had a part in this. But we are all forgetting ONE PERSON who should get a lot of thanks right now...and that guy is in Houston... MACK RHOADES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope that you were not directing that at me for poking a little fun at our ADs physique. Tom is a really a SUPER GOOD GUY and I consider him a good friend of our family. I also become quite upset when he receives much undeserved flak. In time, I am sure that others will appreciate the man as much as we do. Quote
Zip_ME87 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks Meatwad. That's an awesome video! I can't get enough of seeing those guys celebrate. Quote

Appologies Hip Zip, I misinterpreted your comments because it seems that some people on the board are nitpicking and looking for anything to criticize anybody possible and i thought you were doing the same. Sorry again. Quote
jberry1337 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I've had the pleasure of meeting Tom Wistrcill and his family in the AD Suite during the last football game this year, and I also witnessed his passion during the College Cup. He is definitely a genuine, nice guy. He's definitely started off on a bad foot for football, but let's hope (like always), things can turn around. I also wanted to give a shout out to Dr. Proenza. He had commencements on Saturday, but made it out Sunday to the Cup. After the game, when the players ran to the Rowdies, Porter and Proenza followed. After congratulating with Porter, someone from the Rowdies started a "Louis P!" chant, and upon acknowledgment, Dr. P stopped us, pointed at Caleb, and said something like "This is for him." He literally looked mad. I thought it was awesome, he was so happy for Porter, and so proud. I got a really good picture of the two walking back to the team, with Dr. P's arm around Porter's shoulders. Should sell it to the University or something. Quote

I was still in the center of the stands, and with all the noise and excitement from the former players around me (they deserve to be given some credit for helping build a program that eventually won a national championship) I couldn't hear or understand anything being shouted by the Rowdie-Loco contingent. However, I hope by this point Akron people have learned how to pronounce the Prez's first name -- the accent is on the second syllable: (lu-EES). Although in Spanish, it's actually one syllable. Sorry if this sounds like more nitpicking. Let me also join in giving Tom W. some credit for giving our coach and program the resources needed to bring Akron it's first national title. Thank you sir! First, but hardly last. Santa Barbara says they're "Soccer Heaven". Akron could become America's Soccer Titletown. Quote
