Zeke was far from the Zips biggest problem in this game. I don't think it does much good to try to try to single out a player or two for criticism. This was a team effort by the Zips, with not a single player having an above average game.

The refs didn't help. This was the worst officiating I've seen so far this season. But that's not an excuse. The Zips could have still won if they had properly executed a game plan. The Zips failed on both offense and defense.

I always have a hard time deciphering a basketball game's coaching. I walk away from a game wondering what could have been done different. It's hard for me to judge in basketball because 3 more of our three pointers fall and 3 more of the opponent's don't, we win (sort of). I watch football, and it's obvious to me when a somebody (Colts last weekend) gets out coached. Does anybody think that KD was out coached last night?

Per quotes on Rasor's blog, KD called it "a bad effort" Other quotes are critical of team members.

I'm usually a defender of KD but why not go after the refs and get a technical? They certainly deserved it, and maybe it would have reminded his players that there was a game going on. And while I'm at it, why no hard fouls on Cooper? If he wants to drive in and kick it out, make him pay for those drives. And why does it take until halftime to realize that you beat a zone by passing and penetration, not by dribbling around outside the 3-pt line? Why not try Egner, etc., when your normal players clearly decided they didn't feel like playing?

As for Kellogg, what I saw was a guy who can shoot the lights out if left wide open but gets really nervous really fast if someone is on him.

I too left early--first time ever--with around 4 minutes left. I should have left after halftime. That team beat you in the Championship game last year, and you can't get up for that?

hit every nail on the head. Couldn't have said it better. Cooper's scrawny ass would have been on the deck in a heartbeat. and not dirty, just a hard foul like the one Zeke laid on the guy after his BS technical.

Zeke was as good as he could be while the refs harassed him.

I agree. Zeke shot 3-5 from the floor. I like Alex but how effective can Zeke be with a point guard that has 7 turnovers, refs that are the 6th and 7th players on the floor for Ohio, a team that could not hit the 'broad side of a barn' with a truck, and no defense from the guards.

If there is any focus, it should be the lack of defense from the guards, horrid shooting, and the fact that our Big Man only took 5 shots last night vs 14 in the Can't State game. When he's in the game, if we can't hit a three, push the ball down to Zeke.

No question that the elbow thing is a new focus .. but it's intended for the spreading of elbows and swinging .. for them to take 5 minutes to review on video whether or not there was an elbow swing was a bit ridiculous. He hadn't even really pivoted on the play, he's bringing the ball down in the normal course of play .. his arm's going to move. It's not like Zeke was doing a rotary clear out with his elbows pointed out. IMHO that was a mis-application of the rule .. and the fact that they needed so much time and to go to video to look for a flagrant foul sort of supports this contention.

I was right in front of Zeke for the supposed flagrant. Zeke never moved his arms after grabbing the ball. The OU kid fouled Zeke with his face and then got called for a foul. The refs review it and call it a flagrant on Zeke, which is a bad call but within the ref's discretion. But what is even more unacceptable is that they took away the OU foul that would have had Zeke shooting 1-and-1 after the two flagrant FTs, instead resuming play immediately after the OU freethrows. That's illegal and is hopefully being investigated. You can't take away the other foul just because you think (wrongly) that Zeke committed a flagrant.
