USMNT vs Chile tonight

Recommended Posts

Steve Zakuani tweeted a few hours ago: "Just landed in LA! Here to support the US in their game vs Chile & more specifically @TealBunB"

Wonder if Blair Gavin, Ben Zemanski, & Zarek Valentin are also attending given that the game is at the Home Depot Center, regular season home of Chivas USA?

It's not on TV other than Telefutura (is this on dish?). It's on ESPN3.com. I don't know why Fox Soccer Channel didn't choose to broadcast. It's at 10 pm ET, I believe (7 pm PT).

I'm watching at Barley House with the Akron Outlaws supporters' group

That sounds like fun. A friend and I will likely join you. The timing is perfect (after BGSU game at the JAR).

I'm pretty sure that ESPN owns the exclusive rights to the USMNT. It's a shame that ESPN wouldn't give up the rights for this one.

Actually ESPN and FSC share rights to USMT friendly matches.

Just had a thought. Why didn't Bunbury take PKs in the College Cup last year??

Bunbury really impressed me. I was skeptical of whether he was ready for this level, but in his two USMNT caps, he has really impressed me. Between Teal, Agudelo, and Jozy, the forward position is looking bright for the USA.

heck yeah!!! I'm at the Barley House watch party for the Akron Outlaws and there are a lot of Zips fans here. Place went nuts.

Caleb Porter is here too, along with Michael Balogun.

Yeah, I was one of those Zips fans who went nuts! Thanks for posting about the watch party. It was great to finally meet you as well as other folks (Outlaws and non-Outlaws). Besides, I needed a beer after that ugly win at the JAR.

Edit: Interesting video from Telefutura:

ESPN has an article rating the players, Bunbury scores a 6

http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/co...-shine-friendly

TB

I just caught the replay of the match on ESPN3.com. Shameful that ESPN did not carry a live broadcast on an otherwise slow TV sports night anyway.

Our boy acquitted himself very well. He is maturing rapidly and will press for a spot on the full national side. I dare say that had Teal been the player in 2009 he now is, Akron would have scored a goal vs. Virginia in the CC final. At any rate, we should all be extremely proud of how TB represents Akron.

Unfortunately for Teal Bunbury, he and Jozy Altidore play the same position and are essentially the same type of player. Juan Agudelo is more of a compliment to Altidore.

Therefore, I do not see a forward line consisting of Altidore and Bunbury ever occurring in a FIFA qualifying match. Teal will likely need to beat out Altidore in order to start.

This is possible.

Here's TSG's recap:

http://theshinguardian.com/2011/01/23/game...le-1-bunbury-1/

Probably more insightful analysis than the ESPN one, though the player ratings are mostly similar

Just watched it on ESPN3 this morning

I'm probably not quite as high on Dax this game as everyone else, a little higher on Jeff Larentowicz, and a bit lower on Mix's play as well, but basically agree on all the other fronts. Liked the way Lloyd played, even though he was pretty terrible on the card play

man of the match for me was either Teal or Agudelo

I kinda disagree

First of all, Agudelo showed in this game anyway, that he can do more than be a target man for the last ball. He checked back a number of times and actually both strikers were often further back, playing through to bedoya on a number of occasions. Also, Teal has a lot of technical skill in terms of finishing I think you aren't giving him credit for: See the turn he made in the South Africa match. The shot wasn't great, but the turn itself was brilliant. In any regard, I'd say pegging Agudelo as an absolute target striker and Teal as an absolute holding forward is a bit erroneous

And for as encouraging as the stuff we've seen from both of them has been, neither can realistically be said to have a ceiling as high as Jozy's. When/if he gets his act together, that kid is gonna be scary. I don't see TBB or JA surpassing him in the pecking order by 2014 by a long shot

Though I definitely think I'd place the both of them somewhere in the top 5 of the US forward depth chart for future world cup teams

Hey thanks to those who showed up at the Barley House. A great turnout although we had some technical difficulties with the feed. We're working on improving the quality if USSF puts us in this situation again.

I don't remember his exact words, but Coach Porter said to me Saturday evening. Just wait, we'll see more players from Akron playing with the US Squad, and playing in the future World Cup. You gotta love it! Coach Porter also signed up with the Akron American Outlaws.

Next match is February 9th US vs. Egypt. 12:25pm We'll be watching it at the Barley House in the Bar area.

Is the Barley house usually where the Akron AO chapter watches matches? I don't see an Akron chapter on the website, and I'd be interested in joining for sure
