akronzips71 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Zeke gets a dunk, a rebound, a loose ball recovery and a major block in the first four minutes. So KD sits him down. WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT WORKING ON YOUR STRENGTHS? ZEKE IS THE STRENGTH Quote
Valpo Zip Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Hey! you don't understand "the system". Not that I do...or anyone else i talked to for that matter. And also, What's wrong with you ? do you prefer Dan Hipsher? Quote

Valpo Zip Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I was just being sarcastic btw. These are just the comments i usually get everytime i dare to second guess KD's decisions. Here is another one: with a 17 points difference and 2:30 left in the game, why doesn't KD give Egner and Euton a couple of minutes to play? Quote

Ask a Miami fan what they think of the minutes their starters are getting. Quote

Here is another one: with a 17 points difference and 2:30 left in the game, why doesn't KD give Egner and Euton a couple of minutes to play? According to KD; Josh Egner will see 5-10 minutes in the first half every game the rest of the way. If Josh does well, he will be rewarded with extra playing time in the second half. The plan is to have Josh take minutes so starters can rest. Heard this on the radio post game interview. Like another poster I would like to have seen Egner and Dakota Euton come on the floor with 4-5 minutes remaining when the outcome had been decided. They need the playing time and the Zips need the depth. BTW, I see that the Zips are still using KD's patented "hands in pocket" defense. Thank God they were playing the worst shooting team in the conference last night. Quote

There's a lot of inconsistent play on this team. I think these two guys might be two of the best examples of this. Unfortunately, we're still in limbo every game as to who is going to produce. AA still needs a lot of work. I think KD did the right thing by putting Darryl back in the starting lineup yesterday. We've relied on Darryl and Steve together in the backcourt for at least 2 seasons now. And I think the success of this team between now and March depends heavily on their senior leadership in the backcourt. This should no longer be a starting lineup experiment. The games really matter now. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 We need more depth before the tournament gets here. We need more options on offense and someone who relishes the challenge of locking down the other team's top player on defense. So I'm really glad to hear Egner is begin given a chance. I hope Euton gets a similar chance, if only to keep his freshman year from being completely wasted. Quote
mes102 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Yes...KD really loves that "hands in pocket" defense It's not always the coaches fault. Don't you think that maybe it's the players who are being lazy on defense? No, it can't be...it's got to be the coach that has taken Akron to four straight MAC championship games, right? Come on. I coach high school basketball, and I know that you can have the best scouting report and/or gameplan, and may not win or play well because ur players aren't playing to their full potential every given night whether you have them in for 5 minutes or 40 minutes. The coaches can't play, so of course, they get blamed for on court execution Seriously, name 5 coaches that you would rather have that are coaches in the MAC right now other than Dambrot. The rotation is a little different. But we don't know how they do in practice. Dambrot's job is to put the best "product" on the floor, not always the best players. So if a certain "product" doesn't work, then he needs to find a new "product". It's not as clear cut as we see it in games. You may all analyze Dambrot's every decision, but how many of you would do what he does on a daily basis? As a fan, we have every right to have our opinions, but I wouldn't have any other coach in the MAC than Dambrot leading the Zips. I can't say the same for our coach on the other side of the Stiles Fieldhouse... Quote
Dave in Green Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Skip, I agree with you about Rico still needing work, and the benefits of starting a pair of senior guards who've been there and done that. Rico impressed us all from day one with the new dimension he brought to the Zips. There's no doubt that he's going to get better and better as the season and his Zips career move forward. But he still has his share of weaknesses, as all players do, and it may benefit him to enter the game after seeing how the other team is playing and have more of an idea of what to expect when he subs in. Also, McNees and Roberts are more predictable to other MAC teams, which may make other teams more comfortable facing them. When Rico comes off the bench, he changes the tone of the Zips game quite a bit, which forces the other team out of its comfort zone. That's a nice situation, comparable to having an instant offense player come off the bench and put immediate shooting pressure on another team. Rico does it with dazzling footwork and unpredictable drives and passes. In any case, not starting as a freshman should not be a big deal for Rico. Odds are that Rico will make major contributions off the bench in his freshman season, and be the starting PG for the rest of his career. Quote
