zipfan 81
Found out about this last week... it's too bad...
Z-Pouch
Academic casualty ? Bad news but with the Rybak stepping up as a shooter, this might not hurt as bad as expected. Hopefully, there is no more bad news on the way and everyone remained eligible. Good luck to Bubba wherever he lands.
Buckzip
Typical BS for Akron sports. Akron loses more players than any other school I can think of. It blows my mind how many guys are signed to letters of intent, yet never even play a game. Now we have starters that just quit.
Zipster
It was NOT an academic casualty.
Z-Pouch
It was NOT an academic casualty. Thanks. I have mixed feelings on this one. At first, I thought it would really hurt but Bubba's defense is such a liability out there. Cedric has been playing well and should benefit with extra minutes. In the end, it might be for the best. zipsbandman
Not that bad of a loss. He could nail the 3's but his defense is suspect. He doesn't look all that much like a D-1 player either. I think we are in good hands with Dials. Joyce is playing well too, and Cedric can is definitely a player. Hopefully we can get Rybak to step up as a legit fourth guard.
zipboy
Anytime you lose someone you feel bad. I wish Bubba luck. If he was unhappy, then I am glad he decided to look elsewhere. From a playing standpoint, he got minutes and shots. Not much more he could have gotten to make him happy. His game seemed to plateau from last year or even regress slightly. Shot selection was still suspect but when on, he could turn a game around quickly. I wish him well.
zip37
I know Bubba & like him, I wish him well, and another scholarship opens up.WBALAL
rabid lads
does anyone know where bubba will be transfering? he would probably do very well at a d2 school. just wondering
zipfan 81
He can't say due to NCAA rules maybe?, but people are thinking Ohio U
maggiemoo
Didn't Bubba start all season last year? Maybe part of the reason is because he isn't starting now?
Z-Pouch
He can't say due to NCAA rules maybe?, but people are thinking Ohio U I don't see him getting many more minutes at OU - maybe less. Bubba has difficulty getting his shot off against better and quicker competition. I would think his best option is going to a smaller school if he is concerned mainly about his time/stats. Most importantly, Zip37 hit it on the mark - another scholarship opened up and we need someone with size and athletic ability to rebound. It's late in the recruiting game but maybe this gives us an opening to take a chance.
Captain Kangaroo
If Bubba thinks he'll get more minutes at a school of Akron's "level" (mid-high D1) he is getting bad advice. Yes, he was a dead-eye shot that could bury a team in a minute with his 3's...but the way the Zips will win a championship is by playing tough D and rebounding. Bubba's strengths don't apply here. He's a good role player...a weapon...but it definitely appears that we have enough guys on this year's Zips squad that can both drain 3's AND play D - He will hardly be missed. In fact, with increased minutes Rybek and Linhart's development will probably accelerate and Middleton will be less erratic. We may end up a better, more rounded team.I wish him well, but it is no big loss for this team.
grice
I'm sorry to see Bubba go, he was a fun player to watch. I think not starting was the issue. Young players need to realize playing time can change at anytime. Last January when Wood went down with the knee injury it changed playing time for everyone on the team. The bottom line is learning to put the team first and grow from there.
zipfan 81
word is that Bubba HAS enrolled for winter classes at OU and will play after fall quarter grades are out next year. He's not officially a part of the team yet cus OU has no scholarships to offer right now. Though the bobcats need to go out and get a 6-10 or taller big man, Bubba will be a good addition because their two best shooters (Mychal Green and Jeff Halbert) will be graduating this year. This is very Jason Grunkenmeyer of him
Z-Pouch
There was a debate on the Buffalo site as to when he would be eligible for OU. Is it next January ? or does he have to sit out a full complete season. No one over there really knew for sure.
Zip Watcher
He's eligible after completing 1 full academic year at OU. Since they're on quarters with that early start in the fall, he can play as soon as grades are posted in november. He shouldn't miss more than a few games next season for them. He threw away over 20 games of his college career by transferring mid-year. Doing it at the end of the year would have allowed him to play the full slate and then play 2 complete after he transferred. As it is now, next year will be his Junior season, and he'll have most of 2 seasons at the convo. OU fan seems prety pumped about this over at bobcatattack.com.FYI, on the year thus far, Bryan Hipsher is averaging more rebounds and about the same number of steals as Bubba was here, in almost exactly the same amount of minutes. This might be a huge loss defensively.
zipfan 81
I had heard he would only be a sophmore next year, that is one of the reasons he did this....
Akron1
Will Akron let Bubba out of his scholarship?
zipboy
I hope they let him out and I fully expect them to let him out. KD has always said, if you don't want to be here, no one is stopping you. Good luck to him even at OU. Should make for a nice rivalry the next few years. zipper
I greatly doubt if Keith Dambrot will give him a release to another MAC school. I just think that isn't done.
