Quickzips
Great showcase game for Akron, for the MAC, and yes even for Can't State. Shows that even though the MAC has been down recently, there is still some good basketball to be played in this conference. If you are the MAC office you couldn't ask for much more out of a primetime game on national TV with a trip to the big dance on the line. For all the grief Zeke has gotten this year, it has to be a nice bit of redemption to be named tournament MVP after coming up one point and one block shy of a triple double. Think about that for a second. Nine blocks tonight. NINE. Without the big fella changing shot after shot after shot inside this game is a Can't blowout. Justin Greene is going to be seeing Zeke Marshall in his nightmares tonight. Sure he got 13 points tonight, but he had to take 16 shots to do it. If that is the Zeke we have to look forward to for the next two years it is going to be a heck of a ride. Major props also go out to Steve McNees, Brett McKnight, Daryl Roberts and Alex Abreu who all played a huge role in this one tonight. Steve absolutely put the team on his back in the first half when it was starting to look like Can't might give us a repeat of '08. He had a much more pedestrian second half, but that first half shooting performance really was something to watch. Brett McKnight redeemed himself quite well from airballing that free throw to hitting what will easily go down as the two biggest free throws of his Zips career to give the Zips the win. Roberts was huge down the stretch, his off balance floater in the lane with under a minute to go in OT was a thing of beauty. Abreu also came up with some big moments throughout the course of the game and gave the Zips a nice spark off the bench. Finally, want to say a big congrats to all of our seniors (and apparently Nik as well) who have played in their final MAC game. What a way to end it. Congrats Steve, Daryl, Brett, Mike and Nik. zipsbandman
I've been following Akron athletics since 2003. This is the best win ever for me......can't wait for the youtubes to start rolling in. I'm happy for Zeke. He turned down some big schools to come here and he deserves to be in the dance. meatwad
Steve absolutely put the team on his back in the first half when it was starting to look like Can't might give us a repeat of '08. So he was our Greg Jennings tonight?
Zipmeister
But was there really any need to team stomp that k state guy while he was busy lying on the floor and pouting? Were you even paying attention? The guy laid on the floor, our guys are celebrating, jumping up and down in kind of a moving huddle, they didn't even see the guy. Cvetinovic helped the guy up and was being obviously apologetic to the Can't guy, making sure he was okay, when he got pushed in the back by another Can't thug. And that is what started it. No kidding.

So he was our Greg Jennings tonight? I'm glad someone mentioned Steve. Without those early 3's, this game could have gotten ugly very early. And something I don't think has been mentioned yet......how the heck did we survive shooting 47 percent from the free throw line?

We survived because Can't only shot 52% from the line and we had the difference maker wearing #44 in blue. Something else to chew over, with the exception of one team, this entire tournament went chalk. The team that spoiled the fun? Our very own Akron Zips who took down the #3, #2 and #1 seeds in consecutive nights.

GoZips
A friend who lives in Michigan phoned me just after the game ended. Of course, I never heard the cell phone in the celebration din. Ten minutes later I returned his call. He was jumping up and down, doing back flips, etc. He isn't even a Zips fan. He said that the Akron game flat out was the best game on TV in that time slot. GP1
It was a GREAT college basketball game. Looking forward to more discussion tomorrow. I said in the car on the way home from the Q that if that game had been played by 2 teams that I didn't even care about, I would remember it as a great basketball game. The fact that it was UA over Can't is just beyond belief. We don't get to see many games like this in our lifetimes, and it's one to remember and savor over the years. It was everyting that a championship college basketball game should be: 1. Two treams that hate each other. 2. Both teams go through periods where they outplay the other, but basically, they match the level of play of the other team. 3. A guy on the foul line need to make two to take the lead and he does. 4. A player doing what he does best and blocking a shot from point blank range. 5. Both teams were well coached, but in the end, the PLAYERS on the court decided the game. 6. Both teams were of equal talent. 7. The arena looked packed and unless you knew what to look for, you couldn't tell the upper level wasn't open. It looked like a big time college basketball game. jem101
oh and check out this idiot. What a stupid article! I'm sure he never imagined OU would knock off Georgetown last year either. That's the beauty of this tourney, all it takes is for McNees and D-Rob to get hot from deep and you never know what could happen!

meatwad
A 16 seed?!! Really? I've got to say, I really really doubt that. I can honestly see us getting a 15, but not a 16. We've won 11 of 13. The committee looks at that stuff.
