I have to ask this question............ Dont read too much into it. But an observation at the end of the Notre dame game made me curious. I saw CJ Oldham and Josh Egner get in game at the end ( and I salute the staff for giving them a brief taste of the experience). The official boxscore also says that Kyle Peterson got in the game, though I didnt see him in. No offense to those guys but why didnt Dakotah get in the game before any walk ons did? We know that we have six guys coming in and only 5 leaving so far so either Nick or someone else has to do a "Swiech" and transfer out. It just seemed curious that Euton didnt see the floor...........

Kyle Peterson did get in the game. I saw him on the floor.

As for Euton; I would not read too much into that. Players like CJ and Kyle are rewarded for their

dedication and effort. Its a kudo.

Euton has real potential in that he can play with his back to the basket. That makes him a true center

ala Zeke. It is far more wise to polish such a rare gem than discard it.

Guessing now: Treadwell could be 6-8 and well over 220# by next season. Egner and Harney

both need to bulk up by living in the weight room. I speculate that the Zips will be just fine

by the start of next season. That they would tender an offer to another SG for 2013 speaks

volumes about how they view the front court players. Look for more of the double power

forward set. That baffled opponents more than once.

Heard also that Michael Greene is coming along nicely and that Chauncey Gilliam is closer

to falling off the back of the wagon. Rumors, just rumors.

It's interesting how there are so many rumors swirling around about how well or how poorly different players for next season are doing. One week we hear a rumor that someone is an almost sure contributor and the next week we hear that they might not be good enough to earn PT.

This latest on Gilliam is a real puzzle. Here you have an athletic wing similar to Q who has already proven that he could average double digit scoring at another DI university, and suddenly he goes from likely contributor to questionable on the basis of a single rumor. Same with Green from the opposite side. He goes from questionable to likely contributor.

I think I'm going to wait out the spring/summer rumor cycles before penciling in who I think is likely to be a contributor to next season's team and who might leave UA to find PT elsewhere.

But in the spirit of throwing out rumors for consideration, here's one I heard in Chicago. Overheard some folks talking about Diggs. They were saying that he doesn't like being called Quincy. They said if you walk up behind him and say "Quincy" he won't even turn around and acknowledge you. Apparently he likes Q and prefers to be called that. So if that rumor is true, it looks like we on ZN.O are on the right path here in referring to him simply as Q.

I heard Alex Abreu got sent back to Puerto Rico against his will and Kyle Petersen will be thrust into the starting PG position for next year. Also Zeke is quitting basketball early to start his career as a professional video gamer.

I heard Lebron gave UA a ton of cash and the Nike Center will be finished before the first game in the fall. It will be located across the street from Canal Park.

The first game will be an exhibition between the Zips and Lebron versus the Cavs in the ultimate Akron vs. Cleveland game. College rules and officials will be used. Opening line O/U at 160 with the Zips and Lebron favored by 15.

UA and Akron to host first round NCAA Tournament games in 2016 and 2018 along with the woman's Tournament in 2017.

Rasor's recap and thoughts on next season.

Here's a snippet:

Elton Alexander made a good point last night. He said that Akron will look a lot like an Atlantic-10 team next season, with the team’s length and athleticism. What the team gains in those categories, it will lose some in overall skill. You can’t count on replacing successful senior guards that easily.

With that said, the team has a lot of upside. And there is no excuse for not having a non-conference schedule with a handful of “big boys.” It will be a missed opportunity for taking the program to the “next level” if Akron doesn’t get four to seven chances to slay a Goliath.

The other offseason concern is Cvetinovic. Losing him would be akin to losing five games, because I think he makes that big of a difference.

The team will be taking an international trip to Canada this summer, which the NCAA allows every so often. That trip will hopefully give the new components of the team an extra advantage over most years.

I like being compared to an A-10 team. MAC teams will struggle to play with us next season, and we will be built to compete against better teams than we have been in the past.

I was thinking about the improvement we should see from our current contributors this year. To me, this is more important than the seven newcomers (including M. Green), regardless of how talented they might potentially be.

Lets start with the two seniors, Nik and Brett. Nik was one of the best palyers in the MAC at the end of last season. he was much more "in control" than his previous years. Now that he's harnessed his emotions his limit is through the roof. He will be a major team leader. Do you remember Brett coming out of nowhere at the beginning of last season to become a force all over the court? I think he's going to take a similar step forward this year as a monster of a 2-guard.

The returning juniors are Zeke and Q. This is Zeke's breakout year. This is the year he'll show off all that potential that caused him to be such a highly rated recruit. There's nobody in the MAC who can come close to competing with him at his position. As for Q, Dambrot himself said that he has NBA potential if he can just get himself under control. Last year he showed flashes here and there of moves that would make you do a double-take. An additional offseason in Dambrot's system will have him doing less of the dumb mistakes and more of the "wow" moves.

Abreu and Egner return as sophomores. Abreu is an incredible true PG already. His biggest flaw was passing it when he had an open look or lane to the basket, but that comes with the PG territory. He'll be the floor general now, taking over for McNees. Egner was ready to play more minutes last year but was held out of the tournament in favor of more experienced players. This kid can jump right over Zeke's head if he has a running start. He plays with heart, and rises to the moment. Egner should see much more minutes this year as the "energy guy" off the bench and sometimes as a starter. I think he'll be a fan favorite once he's allowed to start making some dunks.

Personally, I think both Nik and Brett have kind of peaked for their Zips careers. Not that that is a bad thing. If we can get the kind of production next year that we got this past year out of those two the Zips are well on their way to having a good season. You might see some improvement from Nitro as I think you will see him more at the 2 guard spot which I think is a more natural position for him, but after four years you really aren't expecting guys to take another big leap in productivity.

Obviously all eyes are going to be on Zeke again next season. I think the biggest thing for him is going to be consistency. At the end of the season he seemed to finally start to get it a little bit in not letting one bad play bring him down for the rest of the game. He started to have the ability to move on and play hard the next play. If he can continue to bring that attitude to the floor every night, and his body continues to mature physically he WILL be a force in this conference. All the pieces are there, it is on him and the coaching staff to put them all together. Ohh yeah, and he MUST learn how to stay out of foul trouble.

Q is a little bit of an enigma to me. Loads of physical talent, but you wonder on occassion if he is going to grasp the mental aspects of the game. We saw what the kid can do when he is engaged, thinking and playing aggressively but within the flow of the game against Western in the semi-finals this year. If that Q shows up game in and game out he will be first team all-MAC. But a lot of that hinges on the mental side of the game, and it is tough to say whether that light will ever come on for one guy or another.

The biggest thing for Rico is going to be how he responds to the added pressure of being the primary ball-handler for the majority of the game. He didn't take well to the starting role when he had it last year, and played much better coming off the bench in a little more limited role. I know we have Walsh coming in this year, but I hesitate to hang our hopes on a guy who has dealt with injury issues, and hasn't played much the last three years. We are going to need Rico to be able to carry the load at PG for quite a few minutes. His physical conditioning must get better in order to do that.

Egner to me is just as big of a question mark as any of the new guys. We really didn't see enough of him last year to make any kind of an informed prediction on what he will be like this year, or through the course of his career. He is going to have to compete again for playing time, as we have a lot of options at the forward positions this year, including a returning starter and team leader at his preferred PF position. The little bit we did see from him last year has a lot of people drooling over his athletic potential, but there just isn't enough to go on to start saying how much he will be able to contribute this year.

Looks like bowling green is still trying to buy a few games next year. Breaking the new house in with a good home showing.
Anyone know when season tickets will be going on sale for the season?
