InTheZone Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 And choke in Cleveland, do we get an at-large bid???Also, if we win out....Is the Top 25 a possibility?? Quote
MRasor0200 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Absolutely. If Akron beats Ohio twice again, I think top 25 is a given, because of all the media hype that team has gotten. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 "Winning out" in MAC play is impossible. A great season would mean we win out at home and lose only 3 on the road. 7 is the maximum amount of losses we could have and still possess a reasonable shot at an at-large berth. If we had beaten Clemson, we'd be a shoe-in.8 losses and a MAC tourney exit in ANY round = NIT. 9 losses or more...we'd better make the "Q" finals if we want an NIT bid.10 losses...forget it.Also - we need to get our home attendance up if we want any sort of chance at a home NIT game. Or....we win it all at the "Q" and the above points are all moot. We'll find out a lot about the Zips competitive level in the MAC this Saturday. Hell, WMU ripped BG by about 20 the other night so our trip to Kalamazoo tomorrow is going to be a tough test as well. Quote

If Akron beat a Top 10 team twice they still wouldn't get ranked. Akron has to do well in the MAC toruney and have between 22 and 24 wins to be considered for the NCAA tourney if they don't win the MAC. It's very hard to get an at-large bid as a mid-major. Quote

Good pointAlso - we need to get our home attendance up if we want any sort of chance at a home NIT game. Last year, the 100th best attendance in Div 1 was just under 5K per game. I think ther are about 320 Div 1 teams. We have argubably a team as good as anywhere from 50-75 in the country. The 50th -75th best team averages in the 6-8K range. NO reason that we should not average 5K the rest of the year. Quote
IBleedMACGreen Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I think anyone who starts a thread "if we win out" is not being realistic at all. However, let's just say Akron is 24-3 going into a MAC tourney game and is 24-4 or 23-4 I DO think they get an at-large bid.But it won't happen. There's too much talent in the MAC. Quote
