This is a private message for Zone..........everybody else please cover your eyes B) Hey Z........how many opponents did we face this year when their starting QB's were out? Ever hear of Omar? How about NIU's stiff going down before our 1st game. What the hell, if I can't put this fire out, I'll just fan it a bit ;)

Hey, can I play too??!!We beat NIU twice in 2005 so there's no question who the better team is. The Zips were a better team than NIU in 2005. Quarterback, schmoorterback. Their defense blew goats.Regarding BG - Quarterback, schmoorterback. Yeah Jacobs is great, but we waxed them by 10 on their home field in a game that meant the world to them. Once again, their defense blew goats. Please reference the Boise State game where the Fighting Smurf's completely shut Jacobs down and ran roughshod over their goat-fellating defense. Jacobs in 2005 was MUCH more mortal...even when healthy...than the Jacobs of 2004. I don't know whether or not we beat BG if Jacobs were healthy this season, but it would be a good fight. I also know Biggs would still have killed BG.

The proof of the lack of Division I quality of the Owens coaching staff begins and ends in the fact that only Dick Flynn is involved in Division I football today. All other coaches are either out of the profession, in D-2, D-3, NAIA or in a non-coaching capacity. How Dick Flynn, one of the greatest Defensive Coordinators in MAC history would be relegated to a position coach slot under Joe Tracey for two years is ludicrous. Owens could not build a Division I staff, which is why he could not build a Division I program. That is what you get when you hire a guy with two years of college coaching expereince to be your head coach. Guess that is why Mike Bobinski could not go to a football-playing school when he left Akron U and is now out of college athletics entirely.Because he had such a limited amount of experience in recruiting he focused on recruiting in NE Ohio instead of a regional basis. There are a lot of gret players in NE Ohio, but many of them are going to the Big 10 and other MAC schools. Owens settled on taking kids just because they were local, and Akron could not compete. The fact that Akron would ever compete with Mount Union or Wooster for a player should tell you something about the quality being sought after. For every Frye, Rohr, and Hendry there were 10 players who should never have been contacted by a division one school wearing a Akron uniform. The area high school coaches could count on Akron taking their second tier players, which made them feel good. Now the HS coaches are upset because no one is taking their Big 10 leftovers. Even Can't isn't taking these players any more, which should really tell you something.

That's not completely true. OSU has two coaches on their staff who coached at Akron with LO.

Actually, three former Akron coaches are on the current OSU staff, but only two are actual coaches, neither of which were on Owens' final staff at Akron. Luke Fickell left Akron after 2001 to join the OSU staff, his alma mater. John Patterson left Akron for Miami after 1999. Gregg Gillum is not a coach, he is an off-the-field staffer - he was on the fired staff in 2003.Bobby Williams is at Indiana, left with Patterson for Miami after 1999.No other former Owens assistants from the 9 years at Akron are 1-A assistants other than Flynn at EMU.SAD GROUP.
