UADavid Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Agreed. Let's get it done! :macc: Quote
a-zip Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 As long as the recruits dont read about Ken Lolla....I like the thinking though Quote
Quickzips Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Good thinking, but unless we can offer him a BCS level contract it isn't going to do much to keep him here if/when bigger offers start coming in. Quote
a-zip Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 How about MAJOR bonuses for postseason play that would equate to BCS money. Make it incentive laden.....MAC East Champs - $50kMAC Champs - $100k AND then give him a percent of the draw (say 40%) from whatever bowl we get in......If we have a year like last year he would get $450,000 in bonuses on top of salary.....Get us to the Alamo, he might make 1 MILLion Dollars. Quickzips Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 He would still jump and run if a BCS school offered him the same amount of guarunteed money as we would be offering him in incentives. Quote
Sloopy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Sorry to bust your bubble but the lower tier bowls give no cash - those figures are based on value of tickets. Akron got no cash at all for playing in the bowl game this year save the funds they made from the sale of tickets. Quote
InTheZone Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Sorry to bust your bubble but the lower tier bowls give no cash - those figures are based on value of tickets. Akron got no cash at all for playing in the bowl game this year save the funds they made from the sale of tickets. Not true at all, get your facts straight. The University got 350,000 cash for the game and the rest of their payment came on ticket sales. Since we sold out our allotment (although we did lower the prices), we got a pretty healthy handout from the MCB. I'm not sure what the school spent on traveling expenses and player gifts though. They could've very well lost money. Quote
a-zip Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 BTW- Lets not necessarily focus on the numbers or percentages but more on a creative way to keep great coaches and incent him to help us build something. We can't pay BCS money for mediocrity in the MAC but if can make headlines, play on T.V and postseason, that is worth a lot to the school, alum, etc. Make em' rich for doing that. Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 This is a beautiful thing as well" The Zips are scheduled to return 16 starters - eight on both offense and defense - to next year's squad." Quote
TXZipFan Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 I know that not many of you will believe this but J.D. and the Athletic Director's 4-year goal is to get Akron into the Big East and become the BCS team you all are talking about. Why do you think that J.D. and the AD request that the new stadium seat 45k??? Their trying to model it off of the move that Louisville made from C-USA to th Big East. That's one of the reasons the stadium is so high on their priority list. Ya'll probably won't believe me but that's their goal. Quote
a-zip Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 TXZip, I sure hope you are right! That would be amazing, is there anything you can share to substantiate this? Quote
GP1 Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 If anyone knows this information, I would like to know if JD has any bonus opportunities for winning the MAC and/or making a bowl game and/or winning the bowl game. Did he make a bonus last year for what happened? I would hope so. This is public information so if you work at UA and you are reading this, please respond. Quote
ToledoRockets Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Why erase my post? All I said was the Akron was 113th in attendance in 2005 and 11-11 vs. IA opponents over the last two years. You guys erase the truth off your boards? Quote
fear the brown roo Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 speaking of the big east, it is interesting that the big east indoor track championships this year will be held in akron's indoor facility. people at the university said they have no plans to move to the big east but this is something to wonder about. ziplock Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Why erase my post? All I said was the Akron was 113th in attendance in 2005 and 11-11 vs. IA opponents over the last two years. You guys erase the truth off your boards? Yes, let us talk about the "truth". Telling recruits that Toledo might be in the Big East in a couple of years is okay with you, is an effective recruiting tool, and is your version of the "truth".What sayeth you truthteller? Quote
ToledoRockets Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Do you have any proof that Toledo definitely will NOT be in the Big East in a couple of years? While you are at it, please provide me with the proof that you were not 114th in attendance this year and 11-11 over the last two years vs. I-A opponents. scottditzen Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 I love the MAC. But I have no problem hearing rumors that the school is thinking "bigger." The very notion that Rutgers is a Big East program leaves me no doubt that it's at least possible that Akron could move there in the future. But for now, I'm loving the MAC rivalries. :macc: Quote
