GoZipsGoZips
College Soccer News, Soccer Times, and Top Drawer Soccer do their polls on Sundays... while the big guys... MDZip
Note from the Soccer America blog: -- Freshman Juan Monge Solano scored on a free kick from 35 yards after only eight minutes and VCU cruised to a 4-1 win over Navy. Former Akron player Yoram Mwila added two late goals to break the game open. Even the Zips seconds were pretty good. I think we will be OK this year. Not so much for Michigan though. Without Caleb Porter, this could be us since they just lost to BGSU and Kentucky: Soccer America Freshman of the Year Soony Saad turned pro, signing with Sporting Kansas City, his brother, Hamoody, left the team, and goalie Chris Blais transferred to USF. On top of that the Wolverines also lost senior Justin Meram, who is now starting for the Columbus Crew. And top recruit Caleb Stanko accepted an offer from German club Freiburg, where he is playing with its Jugend A team.

MDZip
http://www.socceramerica.com/publications/...porter/edition/ NCSAA has the Zips at #1 in the Great Lakes region ahead of Louisville. A little surprising to me since Louisville has their whole team back and just beat UCLA who was #2 in many rankings. I kept the above link for only one reason. I find it funny that the URL said ../reporter/edition but ended up being abbreviated to ...porter/edition. I think all US college soccer stories ought to have a link like that. Z.I.P.
Irvine #5 and UCLA 27! Pheewwww! UCLA fired their women's coach a year ago, and she had been fairly successful (but couldn't beat USC!)-- you gotta feel the heat under Salcedo's seat. I saw Irvine play Gonzaga (at least the start of their game), and they didn't look any better than Fullerton or Northridge to me. their BIG WIN is what -- Wisconsin or Illinois-Chicago? (Sorry -- it's one of those U of California sites that are basically illegible!) I think they were barely ranked third in the Big West pre-season poll, and way behind Cal Poly. I have a feeling that UCLA would give Irvine a tough time...Ya have to like this guy... at Goal.com:Last week... he had Akron at #4... and had this to say. 4.) Akron 2-0-1. Akron 3-0-1. “Solid, efficient win,” head coach Caleb Porter told gozips.com after the 4-0 win over St. Louis. “It still could be better that is the scary thing.” Indeed, coach. And it will be better with time. Next up: New Mexico, September 16. plowerman78
Maryland blew 2 leads in that game. First up 1-0 then gave up 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to let UMBC tie it at 3. They lost to Va Tech who isn't even in the top 48 of TDS. Meanwhile, the Zips tied a couple of very tough teams. Makes no sense to me.
