Weekly College Soccer Polls

Recommended Posts

College Soccer News, Soccer Times, and Top Drawer Soccer do their polls on Sundays... while the big guys... Soccer America and the NSCAA... vote on Mondays

I have a spreadsheet started with all polls. I'll update it tomorrow... but I have no intenton of maintaining it every week as it's just not necessary. I'll look for somewhere to host it. It's interesting just to see the flow every few weeks... and at the end of the season when the rankings count.

Links to the polls are at the bottom if anyone wants to comment on them. I didn't include Goal.com... where Akron is ALWAYS ranked #1 no matter what!

Top Drawer's poll is a little different... as it just tries to select the NCAA fields... but the top teams should be about the same. It's interesting where they put Louisville.

Note from the Soccer America blog:

-- Freshman Juan Monge Solano scored on a free kick from 35 yards after only eight minutes and VCU cruised to a 4-1 win over Navy. Former Akron player Yoram Mwila added two late goals to break the game open.

Even the Zips seconds were pretty good. I think we will be OK this year. Not so much for Michigan though. Without Caleb Porter, this could be us since they just lost to BGSU and Kentucky:

Soccer America Freshman of the Year Soony Saad turned pro, signing with Sporting Kansas City, his brother, Hamoody, left the team, and goalie Chris Blais transferred to USF. On top of that the Wolverines also lost senior Justin Meram, who is now starting for the Columbus Crew. And top recruit Caleb Stanko accepted an offer from German club Freiburg, where he is playing with its Jugend A team.

NCSAA has the Zips at #1 in the Great Lakes region ahead of Louisville. A little surprising to me since Louisville has their whole team back and just beat UCLA who was #2 in many rankings.

I kept the above link for only one reason. I find it funny that the URL said ../reporter/edition but ended up being abbreviated to ...porter/edition. I think all US college soccer stories ought to have a link like that. :)

We hold at #2 in the big poll... no surprise...

Week 3 - Lowest Rankings in years... but maybe we are still over-rated...??? We have some things to prove... after proving to be dead even with some mediocre teams over the weekend. But first... gotta learn from game tapes... and develop some better teamwork. Shots on Goal doesn't win games. "D" looks great though.

Young team still finding itself. Only poll that counts is the one at the end of the playoffs.

:iws:

I agree. To lose the number of players that we did and to begin this very next season ranked between #4 - #5 is insane.

Had they scored against Fullerton we would be ranked top 3.

Number 4 on latest NSCAA poll.

I'm not selling us short... I KNOW that we will be in it at the end of the season...

But we still have a lot to prove!

Irvine #5 and UCLA 27! Pheewwww! UCLA fired their women's coach a year ago, and she had been fairly successful (but couldn't beat USC!)-- you gotta feel the heat under Salcedo's seat. I saw Irvine play Gonzaga (at least the start of their game), and they didn't look any better than Fullerton or Northridge to me. their BIG WIN is what -- Wisconsin or Illinois-Chicago? (Sorry -- it's one of those U of California sites that are basically illegible!) I think they were barely ranked third in the Big West pre-season poll, and way behind Cal Poly.

Yep... I have a feeling that UCLA would give Irvine a tough time...Ya have to like this guy... at Goal.com:Last week... he had Akron at #4... and had this to say. 4.) Akron 2-0-1. "The young talent of Akron needs some time to adjust to college soccer’s physical nature, when they do they’ll be back in the top spot. Next up: St. Louis, September 10. PR: 1http://www.rs.goal.com/en-us/news/2617/you...-three-rankingsThis week... Akron is #2:2. Akron 3-0-1. “Solid, efficient win,” head coach Caleb Porter told gozips.com after the 4-0 win over St. Louis. “It still could be better that is the scary thing.” Indeed, coach. And it will be better with time. Next up: New Mexico, September 16. PR: 4http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/2617/youth-...week-4-rankingsHe has Creighton at #1Creighton looks good... but we tied Creighton at a neutral site in pre-season. Maryland is scary right now...

The invincible looking #1 Maryland gave up 3 goals and needed overtime to beat UMBC last night... the University of Maryland Baltimore County...http://www.ncaa.com/news/soccer-men/articl...d-survives-umbcMaybe they will not sweep the ACC this year.

Did the bruising 6-5 forward Chauncy Gilliam have the hat trick for UMBC? Oh wait, he's on our basketball team now.

Makes us look even better as we have only allowed a single goal all season and it was a fluke score at that.

Nothing to get excited about... but more drops in the Polls... so far...#7http://collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page4413.htm#5http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soc...DB_OEM_ID=10800I have to think that Barrett was yanked from Sunday's game because he lost the ball on every touch at midfiled... because he thinks his job is only scoring... and leaves passing and possession for others to worry about.Mattocks was working on the same issue... and starting to show signs of being a total player... but then he got stupid. Either one of those guys could have ripped his head off... but instead... they got him to swing with some aggressive pushing.Tulsa is having an off year: http://www.tulsahurricane.com/sports/m-soc...ccer-sched.htmlThen we see Holmes... and maybe he can show our Jamaicans a few things.

I don't understand how UNC is above the Zips in both polls. They lost to Va Tech who isn't even in the top 48 of TDS. Meanwhile, the Zips tied a couple of very tough teams. Makes no sense to me.
