UAZipster0305
New coaches poll is out #4 Akron Kind of expected with Creighton losing, although UNC loss last night will need to wait until next weekCoastal Carolina coached by Akron alum Shaun Docking coming in at #20.http://www.goccusports.com/sports/m-soccer...ng_shaun01.htmlI'm also getting excited thinking of what the bracket might look like. Could we end up getting Louisville or UVA at home? Wisconsin is about the only Big Ten team we haven't played and/or beaten during Coach Porter's tenure though they'd potentially be very well-prepared for cold weather. ZachTheZip
29. Northern Illinois 8-4-0 Mid-AmericanI'd love to see NIU get an at-large bid. Would stop some of the complaining over the MAC as a conference. I wish them well in al of their remaining contests unless they play the Zips. Not just for us, but it also forces the rest of the MAC to step up their game. Looks like the MAC may get 2 teams in.It is definitely good for the MAC to get two teams into the Tournament; however, the last thing I want is to see a Zips-NIU match-up in the Regional. We will likely play NIU in the MAC Tournament and a third time would be really lackluster. It's also very hard to beat one team three times in a season. NIU is too good and we are too inconsistent this season for them not to beat us once given three attempts.Part of what gets me excited about the Tournament is that the match-ups are forced in that big name programs such as UNC/Duke/UVA/UConn/Stanford/Cal who would not play us at home are now forced to do so. These are big name schools, which in the public's eye puts us on par with them. NIU is just another directional state school in the MAC to the lay person. Both have played no one but UNC and both teams have lost by 3. And how is St. johns still in the top 10 with 4 losses and UC Irvine #4 with 4 losses... Just doesnt make sense to me. bisbee
You all need to remember that the coaches poll IS NOT the main factor in post season ranking/seeding. It is the RPI . Plus the NCAA does not like to send teams along way away when determining the groups. Would be interesting to see an Akron-Indiana matchup. Also could wind up in a group with Creighton. bisbee
The latest RPi which was just posted tempers the rankings ALOT. Unfortunately we are at #21 If we hope to even get a first round bye we better win this weekend and hope some of the teams ahead of us stumble. If not,it's gonna be tough. bobbyake
The RPI's do not make much sense. How is 3 Conference USA teams ahead of Akron and look at their rankings compared to the MAC http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1
bisbee
The formula for figuring this all out is quite complex especially when they factor in the bonuses and penalties. Good thing is that when you have multiple teams from same conference ahead of you some have to lose in their conference tournaments. Looks like I will be more of a scoreboard watcher over the next week (if that is possible).
TennZip
James Madison at 13 is a joke after two dreadful losses last week. The Big Ten clearly is getting no love with Indiana at #19 (9 in the coaches) and Ohio State in the 40's. Would help the zips if Michigan State could knock off Indiana in the big ten tourney. If New Mexico wins their conference tourney, they will not be the #6 team in NCAA draw. Nov. 14 will see an interesting draw. Clearly, the zips need to take care of business this weekend. Would be good to get another win over N. Illinois as they have a decent RPI. MDZip
We lost to two currently bottom feeder programs, one of them at home. That explains it. I'd didn't excpect another national chmapionship this year, but I'd like to at least see a top 16 seed. NIU could actually help us this year if we meet and beat them in the finals. bisbee
I totally agree. Other RPI negative is the low RPI of the MAC except for us and NIU. They also dropped their RPI from 24 to 31 over the past two polls. Apparently the NCAA has "leeway" in that they don't ONLY use the RPI for seeding exclusively but it remains the most important part by far. All we can hope is that we come away with another MAC title and that some of the teams ahead of us lose in their respective conference tournaments. This will certainly be a crazy college soccer weekend. GO ZIPS
