GoZipsGoZips Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Has Akron Ever Recognized Connor Senn? This is the 10th Anniversary of his death while playing Akron. This was published on ESPN 2 days ago: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/...yer-connor-senn Ohio State plays a game every year in his honor... against the Columbus Crew. They also have T-Shirts saying, "Play Like Connor Today" Not that I'm an Ohio State soccer fan... I've held season tickets for the Zips for 3 years... but I think that a moment of silence before the game to honor a fallen athlete would be a class act... and more importantly... it might also lessen some of the psyche that Ohio State uses to pump up for the Akron game. We don't like OSU... but we do not want any players to die during any game either. There's more to life than college soccer. There's... hmmm... I'll have to think about that. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 If we did honor him, it's certainly fine. But it's been 10 years since he passed, and he was not a Zips player. Although it's history, I don't know that it's worth re-hashing. Personally, I wouldn't place an unnecessary buzz-kill on what will be an absolutely electric home environment. My 2 cents. Quote

Great points. Did not think about the time frame aspect. Quote

He died in Akron... Ohio... right here on the soccer field. We have never even acknowledged it. His story made the ESPN headline 2 days ago... so it's fresh again. Acknoledge him now... and that his death was a tragedy for college soccer... not just OSU... and maybe Ohio State doesn't use it to pump up for the game every year. You will probably see some "Play Like Connor" shirts today. It happened just after 9-11... 2001. I was in NYC on 9-11... and for the rest of the year... so I have a better memory of that than most Akronites... but I still remember the impact of the death of a soccer player on our field. Quote

We could have the moment of silence start about a minute after one of our "fans" refuses to return a ball kicked into the stands by OSU during warm-ups. This would confuse them. First they would think, here these assholes go again, and then they would think, that was a nice thing of those assholes to do. Quote

I wouldn't expect to ever see that happen either. It's been a long time, and it's not our player. Quote
