"Buffalo awakened a sleeping giant," UA head coach Caleb Porter said. "I knew this team had that type of killer instinct in them. I've seen it for periods in a few games when their backs were against the wall. But that second half was exactly what I've been waiting for. With a new group, sometimes it just takes time and finally the light bulb went on." uhhh ohhh ncaa watch out, cant wait for Wednesday

Went to Buffalo for the game last night, was exhausted when i got back so didn't post until now.But that was one of the most entertaining matches i've ever seen. The officiating was piss poor both ways, though a few of the horribly bad calls really hurt us (the PK). Still, we found a way to win and just plain dominated for the final 30 minutes. I don't think they had one shot after they missed that breakaway shot when it was 3-2. It was awesome to watch us play like we did a few years ago or like most of last year, when we just toyed with them, passing them to death until we found our shot. Great stuff.Being there, I probably would have a different man of the match than most...but most in attendance would agree that it would be Deandre Yedlin. He DOMINATED on the near side of the field for the entire second half. I can almost guarantee that Buffalo didn't get past midfield on that side of the field more than one time that entire half. Yedlin looked like the best guy on the field, stealing the ball within seconds of buffalo getting it back every time, and setting up a lot of chances with his explosive speed down the right sideline. It was no coincidence that our offensive explosion occurred that half when we stopped trying to force it up the middle, and started using Yedlin, playing the entire field and using his speed. On a side note: Following the game, we (all four of us) were standing outside the team bus talking to some parents and team members when Coach Porter came over and personally thanked us for coming. He talked to us for a few minutes and ended up buying us a pizza. Just another example of what a class act and genuinely good guy he is.

Thank you for the nice, detailed report.I went to coach Porter's interview, pop quiz session this afternoon at Cub Cadet.Coach was dressed like a well heeled business man. He spoke well of the teamincluding several remarks that sounded very much like what you just described. He seems really pleased with the team. He thinks they have found their chemistryand are ready for the challenges to come. He is pleased with the "killer instinct".Coach Porter fielded several questions including several from the same dolt. Oh, thatwas me. He stated that I asked tough questions which he fielded well. Bottom line:the team is poised for a run at the College Cup and the opportunity to bring homethe National Championship.Anyone notice that even the Ohio U fans gave our men's soccer team and coachesa standing ovation along with the Zips fans at halftime at today's football game.Don't you just hate it when an upstart mid-major has its grip on the National Championship?

..... Especially noteworthy is that the UNC-Maryland showdown drew only 1700
Wow. Two of the top 3 ranked teams in the country couldn't draw more than that in the hot-for-soccer ACC? Not good.
I think the timing of this game was the problem. I watched the 2nd half on ESPNU because I didn't realize it started so early, at 5 pm I think. I thought it would be a 7 pm start. Ben Speas had a number of shots (name mentioned a lot by the announcers), but did not score.
