A little fire for Penn State

This is a quote from a a PA paper.

There are 32 lettermen returning to the Penn State program, which includes 15 starters. The next time the Lions take the field at Beaver Stadium will be Saturday, Sept. 4, when they host the MAC-East Division's Akron University Zips, coached by Lee Owens. The last occasion the Zips visited Happy Valley was in 1997 and they suffered a 70-24 loss. This feat could be repeated in 2004.

BINGO! And that is exactly why we have a chance at these guys. They don't see us coming and probably think that they will roll over us. We never seem to have success when we get some respect, so I can live with that.

I always knew big ten fans were stupid, but are they really THAT stupid?

Let's not have anyone flap jawing to this uninformed soul. Neither he nor any other Nittiany Lion fan, coach or what ever needs any update on the current status of the Zips.

Its nice that he believes the same Akron kids will suit up for the Sept. 4, 2004 game as were embrassed in 1997. They, like their former opponents will have to watch from the stands just like the rest of us.

I remember that game quite well. Midway into the second quarter the score was 14-10. The PSU fans were agast. The previous week thay had demolished Arizona (or was it ASU?) 52-7 with the AZ team getting their TD with :52 seconds left in the game.

Unfortunately two horrible events fell upon the Zips. LO went into the game conceeding in his own mind that there was no chance of winning, so he foolishly alternated QBs starting in the second quarter. The second string QB (I'm not going fishing for blame names) promptly cost the Zips two quick PSU TDs. At the half the score was 35-10.

Going into the fourth quarter the score was a "respectable" 42-24. However, some one alerted JoePa (long known as being a true sportman {my ass}) that the spot on the game was a whoping 45 points. True, gracious sportsman {my ass} JoePa quickly re-inserted his now refreshed starting line up when his second line was unable to move the ball. These refreshed warriors rolled over the tired, out manned Zips and saved the day for true sportsman {my ass} JoePa.

Yup, they won't see us coming. Just like Wisconsin didn't see us coming. I remember one Wisconsin fan posted on the ESPN board that we "should get ready for a beating". He quickly wrote back after the game that Frye was amazing and that they were happy to come out on the winning end.

I'm hoping that PSU will come out having spent at least 1/2 of the game week working on the following weeks game against Boston College....who they lost to 27-14 last year. If I were them I wouldn't be making predictons about beating us 70-24 when THEY went 3-9 last year.

Don't get me wrong....I don't think we'll roll over them. First game with a whole new system, lots of opportunities to mess up. Improved conditioning will help, especially if we keep it close till late. What are the Odds that Joe Pa won't know about JD and watch endless hours of tape preparing for LO? Yea, you're right,...Zero.

they should not be looking past anyone ;since they were 3-9 last year.from what i heard

Can't gave them a good game. if they don't have any qualtiy db's #5 will make them dizzy. penn state has no clue the caliber of our qb. hopefully the o-line will protect him. im sure will get no respect from them ,but thats what im hoping for. im sure there they are getting ready for their 2nd game of the season as i write.

For the record...wasn't the Penn State game in 1999? Can this clown get anything right?

gracious sportsman {my ass} JoePa

Zips and saved the day for true sportsman {my ass} JoePa.

If you don't consider JoPa "sportsman" of college football coaches, who is?

Having met JoPa and sat through a quarter of an NFL preseason game with him,

IMHO, you couldn't be more off.

Well, let's see. I believe I said something to the order of "true sportsman, my ass"

I think any reader with an ounce of sense figured out right away that my opinion of JoePa ranks right around the level of whale crap.

In case you didn't get it the first time let me spell it out for you.

The point spread on the game was a mighty FORTY-FIVE points. The Zips played their hearts out and trailed only 42-24 with less than nine minutes to play in the game. The temperature was in the 90s. The kids were beat. But, they were holding their own against PSU's second line. Frankly the dig tired Zips were "leading" PsU's (as in PeeYew) second line 7-0.

Some one alerted true sportsman {my ass} JoePa that he didn't have the point spread covered. True sportsman {my ass} JoePa replaced his second team with his now rested first stringers for the REST OF THE GAME. Thus, a 70-24 blowout compliments of "true sportsman {my ass}" JoePa.

What kind of "true sportsman" runs up the score against a dog tired, out manned opponent for the sake of a betting line point spread?

Frankly I don't care if you spent a week in Siberia with the A-hole .... if he were really a sportsman he would have let the kids walk off the field with their heads held high and their dignity intact. JoePa is a flaming A-hole NOT a sportsman.

You understand now, Bubby?
