Would be great if we can get this back down to single digits before the half.

This team seems like it is too reliant on Zeke cleaning everything up with blocks around the rim, and we're gambling too much on the perimeter which allows easy drives and results in foul trouble for Zeke. I'd honestly like to see us play some more zone. We played a lot better late last year when we switched things up between zone and man. Much the way MTSU is doing to us tonight

And Brian Walsh fouls on a 3 shot with .3 left to end a miserable half for the Zips. Down 13 going into halftime. And KD gets T'd up heading into the locker room to boot. Great job guys.

This team is sloppy, undisciplined, uncoordinated and out of sorts. Someone needs to come up with some answers pretty soon here because this season is NOT on a good trajectory.

I've said it before and I will say it again. This team will NEVER reach its full potential until Zeke cuts out the silly fouls. He's going to foul out of this one early again. That will make what? 4 times in 7 games this year? And this guy considers himself an NBA prospect? He'll have trouble making a D-league roster if he can't stay out of trouble.

And if anyone wants to try to box out on a rebound on a free-throw it would be nice. This is just fundamentals guys. This isn't the tough stuff. Fundamentals.

I cannot believe how bad we are on the boards right now. This is the longest, most athletic team we've ever had and we are just getting slaughtered on the boards. We are just getting flat out out-hustled. When you give up an offensive board off of a free throw miss 3 times in one game you have big problems on the glass.

I'll repeat what I said in another thread. The lack of assists should answer a lot of the questions we have right now. These guys simply aren't working together to win basketball games.

2011-2012 - 12 Team Assists Per Game

2010-2011 - 14 Team Assists Per Game

Not a huge difference from last year.

There were only 6 today. So, I guess it's gotten even worse.

I'm letting everyone know that it's a pretty good barometer that guys are not working together offensively, and are making individual attempts to score. It's easy to see, and it's not good.

Lots of problems,seemingly no solutions.

I'll offer up one. Why do we not play a lot of zone? I know that Keith is not a big fan of it but it makes sense for this team. The biggest reason of course is Zeke. This would keep him on the floor much more because he won't be picking up those those chase fouls out near the FT stripe. A zone also keeps him on the block and takes advantage of his amazing shot blocking talent, by far his foremost strength. At the very least, we should be switching up defenses frequently to fit what we have on the floor. This tactic was deployed last season and was a big part of our late season success.

Why not?

PS thanks Russ, Blue and Dave

While everyone is interested in talking about the lack of leadership and the refs and the team chemistry and all that, allow me to address real issues that can and should be addressed immediately.

1 - I work with an OAC basketball team and i attend their practices. In one drill, a true freshman guard took a step before he started dribbling. The coach blew the whistle stopped the drill and embarrassed the poor kid for like 90 seconds. The drill was cancelled and for the next 20 minutes the whole team practiced catching the ball and dribbling in different scenarios without traveling. No one on that team ever traveled after that, not in practice, and definitely not in a game.

Can you count how many times have our guards traveled with the ball in this season? not only the guards serb also does that frequently. I have to believe that they do that in practice as well. The only explanation i can think of is that our coaches don't see it in practice and let the players get away with it.

2 - At the end of each practice, the routine is for each player (at my OAC team) to shoot 5 FT in a row and go home. if you miss one, you reset your counter and you keep shooting until you hit 5 in a row. The first week a few players spend an hour after practice to get their 5 in a row. Now, that does not seem to be an issue anymore. Do the zips practice FT shooting at all?

3 - Who is coaching our big guys? after the departure of Jeff Boals, who teaches the big guys how to box out? how to move their feet on offense and how to defend the back door plays? Who ever that guy is must be fired right now. We can't box out, we can't defend the paint and our bigs finished the game with a near 20% FG% (5/24)

Serb: 4-15

Zeke: 1-4

Egner: 0-5

20% is unacceptable from behind the arc and we're talking about our bigs shooting 20%.

I know that some people on this board consider it a taboo to criticize KD, I am sorry, i can't direct our poor performance anywhere but towards him. This team is not prepared the right way. They still may get better and win the MAC in march but that does not mean that they should not be ready to play in December.

@Ada Zip, you make some good, constructive suggestions there that you have seen actually produce results. I really appreciate reading posts like that. Heaven knows, the Zips appear to need a lot of help right now.

I don't see why it would be considered taboo to criticize KD or anyone else when you present constructive suggestions that you think would help improve team performance.

I usually follow all the away games pretty closely, but was tied up at a family event today. I guess I can consider myself lucky to have missed this one. After traveling to Morgantown and witnessing the WVU slaughter, following today's game would have probably made me crazy.

I just took a quick look at the stats, and they were frighteningly awful. Along with the poor scoring and rebounding, the Zips were thoroughly trashed in every statistical category from steals and blocks to turnovers and assists.

Remember how great the Zips looked in every aspect of the game for a full 40 minutes against Mississippi State?

What in the heck has happened to that team?
