Crew8
I stumbled across this and thought it was funny. After the resignation of Michigan's Coach Steve Burns some Michigan fans think they can reel in Coach Porter. They're dreaming of course. Never would this happen. GoZips
Coach Burns is probably the classiest coach in the Big Ten. I have had the pleasure of several long conversations with him. Defeating the Zips probably was his greatest thrill; or maybe getting to the College Cup. Best of luck and fortune to coach Burns. And, no, Michigan may not have our coach Porter. bobbyake
their source: Losing Meram, both Saads, and his top incoming recruit was too much to deal with and the team collapsed from a College Cup appearance to a 5-14-1 record. Speculation as to his successor naturally focuses on Caleb Porter, the piped piper of Akron and the Olympic team's coach. It was Porter's team that made Michigan look like the USNT against Brazil in that College Cup game. Many in a thread with a lot of people close to the situation say he won't leave, but there's got to be a chance. Michigan should punch him in the face with the highest salary in the country; this is a high leverage opportunity to make one of your programs a national power for a relative drop in the bucket. http://mgoblog.com/content/unverified-vora...-new-hockeybear
bisbee
Not again This will come up every time there is an opening at a "major' program.
bobbyake
it's Michigan soccer, we have nothing to worry about. If it was an MLS team, then we'd have to worry.
fknbuflobo
Porter is not going to Michigan if he passed on Indiana last year . The Indiana one really worried me.
Crew8
Porter is not going anywhere. This would be the worst time with Olympic Qualifying coming up. He has no time to go into a new program. I don't think he will ever leave for another college program. But when he does, it will be for a professional club, not college soccer. bobbyake
I'm surprised no one has gone after Jared Embick. Does he make enough at Akron to stay if a team like Michigan came knocking?
you am i
Porter is not going to Michigan if he passed on Indiana last year . The Indiana one really worried me. That's my thought too. If he was going to leave, he would have left last year. He could have written his own ticket. Instead, he signed a 10 year contract with Akron. He has a great situation here and he is not a grass-is-always-greener-someplace-else kind of guy.
yazan07
I'm surprised no one has gone after Jared Embick. Does he make enough at Akron to stay if a team like Michigan came knocking? I don't know how much he makes, but I sure hope no one tries snatching him from us. At this point, he might be the most important associate head coach in the country. The Olympic gig seemed to work out perfectly for Porter because it won't interfere with this season or next season, but in between now and then, I think a lot of duties of the head coach are going to be relegated to Jared and the other assistants. We still have Spring season, and although it may not be extremely important, it shouldn't be written off as no big deal. Also, Porter will probably not be able to be as hands on with recruiting in the off season. We need this team of assistant coaches now more than ever. Also, I don't see Caleb Porter going to another college soccer program. He has too much invested in the Zips and is getting well-deserved opportunities due to his success at Akron. His family is settled here, and he has a good contract with UA. He also has a great fan base, and his team is the most successful on campus. (Have we commissioned the Caleb Porter statue yet?) Moving to another college soccer program seems like a lot of upheaval with little, if any, payoff.

If cash is important to him it shouldn't be too difficult to lure him away. $70,652 (in 2010) isn't all that great of a salary.
Dave in Green
Average college soccer coach salary appears to be about $39k. I'd guess that Coach Porter got a fair raise after his National Championship. Average College Soccer Coach Salaries

I'd guess that Coach Porter got a fair raise after his National Championship. Average College Soccer Coach Salaries How much would be fair? I wouldn't worry. Porter's latest contract pays a base of 270K with an 80K services clause for promoting the University for a total of 350K annually plus incentive incentive compensation. There are also many perks included such as a car allowance, club membership allowance and an interest bearing annuity bonus should he serve the whole term of his contract. This doesn't include the substantial sum Caleb earns from camps. Long story short, it will take unprecedented deep pockets to lure Caleb away for another college job. He's probably the highest paid coach in the college soccer now!!!
