bobbyake
You couldn't pay me to root for Cowlumbus anything. We really don't have a pro team in the area so i basically just support the entire MLS, in particular the teams that have Zips alumni on them. I'm with you on both points. If/when the Crew someday picks up Chad Barson or any of the other Zips in their academy (yes, including Ben Speas, even though he went to UNC), I will follow the Crew. I don't share the same feelings as you regarding Ben Speas. He doesn't feel like a Zip to me.
Zip_ME87
I don't share the same feelings as you regarding Ben Speas. He doesn't feel like a Zip to me. You don't have to. I try to talk to as many of our players as I can each season, and Ben was always very friendly to me. He's no longer a Zip, but was for 2 years and had one great header save vs UNC in the 2009 semi-final game to help the Zips get to the final. It does suck to say, "it sucks we lost him," after every NC game I read about. He's had a great year at NC. He could be the difference between us sitting at home this weekend vs going to Alabama

He could be the difference between us sitting at home this weekend vs going to Alabama I agree with you that Ben could have been the difference between sitting home and going to Alabama next weekend. But, I also understand his decision to leave given that he came in with high expectations of starting and was mainly a sub for 2 years. I believe he's very interested in playing in the MLS. It's tough to get noticed by the pros without being a starter.

Zip_ME87
Yeah, but he is currently the first guy off the bench for UNC. Correct? He is essentially in the same role. I don't think so. He's started the few games that I've watched. EDIT: I checked 8 box scores at http://www.tarheelblue.com/sports/m-soccer...ccer-sched.html, and Ben was listed as a starter in all of them. I didn't check every box score, but I'm convinced he is a starter for UNC as I thought.

bobbyake
Sporting KC is a perfect example of how one team can be at the bottom and rise to the top. I enjoyed the MLS a lot in 2011.
Spin
Favorite European club is AS Bari (where my grandparents are from). Same with me. My great grandfather came to the US in 1900. Went through Ellis Island and settled in Cincinnati. Wish I could have talked to him...
Z.I.P.
Zips USMNT I can't bring myself to loyally follow a team across an ocean or continent. I'm 100% behind this comment! That's why I only root for Lanikai Tuesday (for the unenlightened, they play in the Men's Island Soccer Organization - MISO), and the American Samoa National Team (WE BEAT TONGA, WE BEAT TONGA!!). They are on the same continent as I -- Oceania. Secondarily, I can tell you that if and when La Liga gets the coverage in the USA that's due, Spainish futbol will gain much more popularity in the USA. How many people have GolTV, anyway? Whatever happened to ESPN's coverage from the past couple seasons, will it return in 2012?

Which in my opinion is the most entertaining league in Europe as far as a competitive balance, quality skill, and the stadium atmosphere. I just can't get up for Spanish La Liga, it's a two headed horse race, but I'll tune in when those two horses go head to head.

robh91
How about that spanking Arsenal took today? For Arsenal the match meant nothing to them as they already finished on top of the group. They took what, 3 regular starters to the match? Glad they decided to rest the regular guys. As for my teams, I support Arsenal (Sp*rs suck!), and love watching Barcelona. Barca just always amazes me everytime I watch them, especially that little magician. Best player in the world. I love that Akron strives to play the same tiki-taka style as them.
