w00t Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 A beloved local guy is a major contributor for his local team who has been near or at the top for the entire time he was there, but then suddenly leaves to go to a team that he thinks will surround him with better talent and give him a better chance to win a championship. Who is it? Le Bron Speas Very bad call. The LeBron comparison is assinine. I don't think he was being serious. Anyway, he needs to sign that homegrown contract and we'll finally have a former Zip playing for an MLS club within driving distance! Quote

Who is it? Le Bron Speas Very bad call. The LeBron comparison is assinine. +1 Yeah, you guys are right. I was just taking Zach's bait to be a smartass . I sometimes cannot help myself. The comparison does not hold. LeBron is a whole different conversation, one I prefer not to have. I first saw Speas play @ NC Soccer in (I think) 2003. He might have been 13. He went on to attend my old HS, where I watched him some more. I was crushed when he transferred to UNC. I sincerely wish Ben all the best. It appears he has earned a shot at his dream of professional soccer. Good for him! Asinine has only one S. Mix in a spell check. Quote
bobbyake Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 it sucks a lot that he's at UNC. The sooner he signs that homegrown contract, the better. Quote

Z.I.P. Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 From Steven Goff "Also hearing UNC MF Ben Speas is planning to accept homegrown offer from Columbus. Weighed Euro trial offers & return to school #mls" Why didn't Ben get the G.A. offer? Doesn't seem to make sense. Did he originally say he wasn't leaving, then change his mind? Quote
bisbee Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Why didn't Ben get the G.A. offer? Doesn't seem to make sense. Did he originally say he wasn't leaving, then change his mind? Probably because he doesn't deserve one. Quote
