exit322
The penalties of this show-cause are: Tressel must sit out first 5 games of the first season. Bowl ban for the first season. 5 years of sending progress reports to the NCAA. That's it. No scholarship loss. No recruiting ban. Does that really make him unemployable? No, it doesn't. ESPECIALLY at a school that realistically is in a spot where it's not doing much of anything Year 1 anyways.

ZipRoo
It all boils down to this, does Jim Tressel want to continue mentoring 18-22 year old young men as a college coach? If so, this is the place for him. If he has higher aspirations, such as NFL money (really?) or becoming a preacher (that "higher calling" mentioned here earlier), then the discussion is ended. But if Tom Wistrcill has any sense at all....and that, frankly, is 50/50 at best....then he's reaching out to Tressel one more time before taking any further road trips to nowhere. Tressel would bring to Akron exactly what's needed here. He may be the only person who can transform a dead/dormant program into one that can (sooner than later) become a MAC contender--or better. If there's one guy I'd put "all my eggs in his basket" for, it's Jim Tressel. Apparently TW did that with P. Withers...and scored bupkiss. Part of me feels that TW did put all his eggs in Tressel's basket, and didn't want to share any to Winters, Narduzzi, and others. Part of me thinks that Wistrcill's plan all this time was "Tressel, or I'm fired" mentality... I just feel(as in my opinion), that some of these names that have been mentioned during this search, were just smokescreens. That he's been hoping that he could just get Tressel after the NCAA sanctions have been released. Part of me wonders if Wistrcill tipped off to Andy Staples to write something like that to get Tressel's attention. For what it's worth,on Andy Staples' twitter account, he said "I'm only half kidding saying some school should hire Tressel. Really, it's a smart move." zips4ever2008
Can we get over this Tressel to Akron thing already. He is not coaching here. The NCAA made their point, even though I disagree with the post season ban and scholarship losses. I felt it should have been more. I don't think he even wants to coach. He's not a young guy anymore either. Do you really think he wants to coach young men who are 18-22 years old? Like the ESPN article said, what school hires someone who has had serious violations with the NCAA? In my opinion, it would be a stupid decision to hire Tressel since I don't trust the guy to keep clean. He just doesn't learn from his mistakes. Lance1969
Tressel is waiting to see how many JuCo players sign witht he Zips today(Dec. LOI Day for JuCo players) to fill in the holes on the Defense. After seeing that the class fell apart Tressel will not come to Akron. Who is running this hiring fair gor a coach?
