Spin
Lot 9 eh? I'm in. We haven't missed a spring game in several years. Always a good time. It's the only time me and all three sons have been able to attend the same Zips event, and the U always makes us welcome. How to get more people, I think it all goes back to marketing. New Coach, New Direction, something of that nature. People are looking for a winner, the Browns haven't won since they came back, the Buckeyes are in for a few more rough years IMO. This is the perfect time to sell TB and the new program. Starting with the spring game.
Dr Z
And what is Dreamland?BBQ. You'll find a better selection when the Lot Niner's™ have their annual rib burn-off next year.
K92
Lot 9 gets an alcohol permit and serves beer to tailgaters!!!!!! if bee can not be in the stadium, get it at least in the lots. Lets start talking to the university. Nope. I'm not a gonna fall for that one. There is no shortage of wonderful barley nectar in lot 9. If UA served in the lots, you couldn't bring your own. Bad idea. Perhaps you are a big draft beer fan, watcher? I would give love to have draft beer in lot 9 if there was a group of guys I could count on to help me drink it. I don't want to go to the expense and hassle of putting in a keg system if I am going to bring home a mostly full keg that only my brother in law and I put a dent in. It's not worth it. I was quite happy with the beer situation last year and the contest to see how many different beers we could drink. However, if we don't do that again, having some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (for example) on tap would be awesome. Thoughts?

But...if you really wanted draft, I would suggest the 1/6 craft kegs that have become popular in my garage. I own three or four different keg couplers that you would be welcome to borrow if your keg wasn't the standard sankey. I think I own the U, G and A keg couplers. A keg for yourself is not much fun. If you have friends milling around the keg tap it's great. I think that is one of the reasons I liked the contest last year was because of all of the sharing and comparing notes. I actually have the same conundrum about satellite tv. I had planned to upgrade to an HD flatscreen setup last year, but traded my full size van in on a smaller vehicle, so I just did a makeshift setup with older equipment I had in the basement. Same thing applies here. TV is great if there are people constantly checking in and out to see what's going on in the early game. If I am sitting there watching the game by myself, I am missing the party going on all around me. Know what I mean?
K92
Boy, that didn't take long. Just got a p.m. Of course, you do relaize that you are in violation of state law and university regulations by bringing beer into Lot 9/on campus. Not trying to be a prude but UA police and city police can choose to look the other way or not. Personally I think it risky especially if I wasn't being descrete about consuming beer in any of the parking lots. You bring a keg and you'd better be prepared to hide the keg. You can't always trust the cops to look the other way, especially if one or two beer drinkers get out of controle. On a better note, UA is looking at providing beer (alcohol) for the entire stadium and not just the luxury section for the 2012 season. Of course patrons will have to be of age and be prepared to prove it. We'll see. I would be delighted if UA did this.
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
I applaud UA if a way is found to sell brew to fans at the games, either through food vendors inside the stadium or at beer stands/tents/gardens outside the stadium, the way Can't does. I also applaud the lot niners turning the volume up to 11 on the tailgating, including adult beverages consumed with discretion, as was always the case when I was there with them. No way in hell will Akron PD nor UAPD come after the tailgaters unless things get wildly out of hand. GO ZIPS! GO TAILGATERS! GO BEER! Of course, I've discovered two places that I wish would have existed in NE Ohio while we were there: Total Wine and Beverages and More (BEVMO!). Superstores for adult beverages. They are awe inspiring the first time you walk into them. The beer selection at both is insane. if only there were a way to build a connection straight from these places to lot nine, some sort of time/space doorway.... As long as you arent being an idiot the police won't say anything. They know this would be another reason for fans not to show up. I never hid my beer this year when the police were walking through. I usually asked them if they wanted a refill on their coffee, etc.. and they typically smiled and come over to chat. The whole key is not being irresponsible and causing scenes. I think I actually prefer the interesting assortment of bottled brew we go through in a Lot 9 season. It's pretty cool to be talking about tailgating on January 15! K92
I agree with you, JZ84. It is cool to be talking tailgating on January 15. The bottled beer variety was a real high point last year. If we are in consensus that we should do that again, I am going to have to start cellaring some seasonals in preparation. bobbyake
If I recall correctly -- Last year it was $100 Z-Fund donation, along with a $50 parking fee? Keep in mind only 3 years ago Wistercill tried to squeeze $5,000 from every Lot 9'er, so who knows what they'll mandate now that Bowden's running the show. I'm guessing somewhere between $100 and $10,000. the beautiful thing about tailgating in lot 9 for soccer games is that it's free. Especially when I spend around $50 in tailgating supplies per game. I'd like to tailgate for at least one football game next year, but not sure which lot yet.
K92
So far I see coach Bowden working hard on marketing. I wish the U would work as hard. The time is NOW. There are lots of ways to promote UA that would be of minimal cost. When I went to Wal-Mart today, Tuffy the Eagle was the greeter. If Ashland College, I mean University can do things like this why...Aw, forget it.

Get a big Zippy and seat it behind the Eagle. The colors look blue and gold and it would read U A on the other side. Glad I could help. You're describing exactly what happened when I drove around Northridge in September, near the mall! Is that where you live? Only one thing they didn't have. But you can get some. Keep going, turn left at Catalina and proceed 2000 mi. You will eventually discover Okole hao!
AKSportsFan
I agree that the variety of beer challenge was fun but preparations have already begun for the upcoming season. I have mastered my new deer chili recipe and have been scouting various establishments for an ever growing variety of beverages. Definitely getting a flag. Lets fill the lots next year. AKSportsFan
We need to get the local community involved and getting GiantEagle to build a pop tower in support of Akron would be awesome. We are climbing the ranks of relevance. Go ZIPS!!!

We settled a few miles further west in Thousand Oaks, but I'd happily travel that extra 2,000 miles to enjoy some shave ice and some brew while watching some Zips FB, BB, Futbol, you name it. Spin
Me and my sons want to give it a try, but don't know what to bring? We don't have season tix as my son goes to BW and wants to see some of their games, and my third son is not here every weekend. But we want to get into some tailgating. You don't have to bring a whole lot, Spin. You could just walk in and have a good time. Just bring a chair if you are the sittin' kind, something to drink and something to throw on the grill. Or you could just walk over to Europe Gyro and get an order to go if you don't want to bring food.
K92
I created a facebook page for anyone to talk tailgating or to post pics. http://www.facebook.com/AkronZipsTailgaters I have never done a facebook page before so. . .If you are on facebook, like the page, share it with your Zips circle, add pics, etc. Tell me what to do on the page and I will. (You might have to tell me how to do it, though.) Anyone who is able to access facebook from their smartphone can now upload pics from tailgates in real time. Let's see where this can go. We might find some new contributors for ZN.o as well.
MontrealExposloveZippy
It'll be mine and some friends first time tailgating this Saturday- What is the best lot for tailgating? Why? How much does it cost to park in the lots? Is there any security/patrol trying to bust people like they do at tOSU? (We're all over 21, but just curious) If you have any other info please let me know
