Blue & Gold Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 The home opener is at 3:00 PM this Friday at Canal Park against Ball State. I like having so many games at Canal Park. We only have 6 games at Lee Jackson Field. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 I like having so many games at Canal Park. We only have 6 games at Lee Jackson Field. It's more out of necessity. They only intended to have 3 or 4 there originally, but have slowly added more as the home season draws near. btw, today was a tough loss, but we've had 5 straight games of quality starts by our starters so things are looking good. Spin Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Looking forward to going down to the ballpark to watch some ball. Th retention basin was handy when I had afternoon classes on Friday, but otherwise I'm glad they're playing at Canal Park. Quote
Dave in Green Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Question about Lee Jackson Field: When it's referred to as a retention basin, is that an inside joke or is it actually designated as an emergency retention basin? The reason I ask is because a little birdie (not Jake) keeps chirping in my ear that the baseball diamond at Lee Jackson Field is a prime candidate for an on-campus arena. If the area is actually designated as a retention basin to manage runoff in the event of a major rainstorm, that would seem to disqualify it as a reasonable candidate for a multi-million-dollar arena. All joking aside: A retention basin would imply that it handles water some of the time. Considering it's ALWAYS under water and soggy, I'd say it's more of a swamp by definition. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 btw, here's a sweet video promo for opening day (some awesome giveaways this weekend for students as well! I LOVE the shirt.) A better look at the tshirt Quote
ZachTheZip Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 If you can't make it, UA just announced that all home games (even ones at Canal park) will be streamed online. Looking around the MAC, hardly any of the MAC schools stream their sports outside of basketball, which they are required to do by the MAC. Akron is leading the way in the number of sports being streamed online. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 The Zips are finally getting some good pitching and starting to hit a bit as well. They are going for the 3-game sweep today at 1pm. If you can make it, you should really head down to Canal Park this afternoon. It looks like the rain will be done well before first pitch with sunny skies and mid-50's for gametime. Go Zips Quote
CincyZip Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Support this team people, an early sweep in MAC play would be huge for their confidence and momentum. Doing it in front of a nice fan base would make it even more so! Quote
zippy5 Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Looks like Can't is only 10-10 overall, it would be cool if we could make a push to stay in contention for a while. Quote

"Stay in contention for a while"? I want to beat them. Coach Rembielak wants to beat his old team. It hasn't shown in the record, but the baseball team is much more fundamentally sound than I've ever seen it. We can compete in the MAC and make a little noise in the MAC tournament. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 Tough loss today but a damn exciting game. Our pitchers need to be smarter in suicide bunt plays though, we've been burned by that too many times already this season. Our pitching overall the past few weeks has been amazing however. We are getting solid start after solid start and the bullpen looks good for the most part. If we can stay consistent offensively, we will be in the mix by the end of the MAC season. Also, Akron fans better look out for the Rally Bum! He's going to vault this team to new heights. (anyone that went today knows what i'm talking about) Quote
Spin Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 I didn't make it down, wound up replacing car brakes and hubs on Saturday and studying for an exam on Sunday. How many people turned out? Was there food available? Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 I didn't make it down, wound up replacing car brakes and hubs on Saturday and studying for an exam on Sunday. How many people turned out? Was there food available? Good crowds overall, but especially Friday and Saturday when it was warmer. The Rowdies were impressive and very loud, they caused some trouble for Ball State. Particularly the Cardinals leadoff man, who went hitless for the entire weekend and was visibly flustered by the heckling. And no, there were no concessions open. But people could just walk up to wing warehouse inside the stadium and get their fix there or bring their own food in. A few of us are planning on going there for pregame drinks and 39 cent wings on Wednesday for the YSU game, can't beat it. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 27, 2012 Author Report Posted March 27, 2012 If anyone was wondering why Myles McVeigh hasn't made a start in nearly a month... Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 Akron Pitcher to Undergo Tommy John Surgery Not looking good with two of our top three starters out now. I'm guessing that Alex Loftin will permanently move back to the starting rotation. Quote
