Akron @ Ohio

So frustrating. Thinking positively is tough now, but here goes. Despite only having one MAC loss, the Zips have coasted through most of their games. Often this means they have to go really hard the second half to win it. Hopefully, this kick in the teeth serves as a wake up call to the guys and they take this lesson into the tourney and win 2 in Cleveland to go dancing.

I said the same thing after Oral Roberts :CK_brew:

There are probably 8k there. Certainly respectable for a Sunday night. They had over 13k earlier this year and over 10k as well.

I'm sure the crowd looks good. It just seems stupid having such a large arena if you can't fill it regurlarly. I can't imagine those 13K games come around very often.

Not like it matters. What's happening on the court is all that matters. And right now, Ohio has nothing to be disappointed about.

Down 19 at half? Really?

I don't know why the only nationally televised game we play well in is the MACC. IMO, this is the source of our lack of national respect.

The Oscars and NBA All-Star game are on. Maybe there aren't that many people watching. Figured we were due for a down game but not this bad.

It's really not that the Zips are playing so bad. The Zips are playing their normal game, which works against so-so teams. OU brought their best game tonight. OU did not play like this when they lost all their earlier MAC games. They turn it on and they turn it off. They turned on the intensity and urgency tonight, and the Zips have been unable to adjust and turn it up a notch. This is what I was expecting from OU. What I wasn't expecting was that the Zips weren't prepared for it.

Yeah they look ridiculous right now. 23 point game and they are absolutely hitting bombs from outside. As soon as the Zip player went under on the ball screen for Kellogg I knew he was going to take it. Cooper and Kellogg have some impressive range out there.

Zips have to rise to the occasion in these nationally televised games for the country to take Akron basketball seriously.

Zips aren't coming back tonight. OU is playing the second half with the same sense of urgency and level of intensity that dominated the first half. Remember, OU did this same thing to Georgetown 2 years ago. They can do it against anyone at any time. They just can't do it consistently. They might not be around for the MAC tournament championship game.

I'm not confident that Akron is mentally tough enough to make it to the MAC tourney championship game.

If Ohio plays like this in the tournament, they have the potential to be extremely dangerous.

...and if Akron plays the way they did against Ohio in the first game we would be dangerous in the NCAA tourney not just the MAC.

Go away

OU lives and dies by the three ball. If they're on like they were tonight, they're incredibly dangerous. I'd prefer not to run into them at the MAC tourney...
