Our team has the potential to be very special next year, having the experience of playing as many good and possibly bigger name teams as possible now can only be a good thing for next year. I'd love a deep run in the NIT.

Of course I'd prefer the NCAA Tourney, but the NIT is a good tournament. Best of all, the Zips get to keep playing...more playing time, more experience against good teams.

The NIT means more Zips basketball now, not next season. Count me in.

It hurts that the Zips lost tonight. But we have a great group of young players coming back next season. Playing a few NIT games would be good for all of them, and getting all the way to Madison Square Garden would be a great consolation prize after a tough 1-point loss to a team that some were predicting would blow out the Zips tonight.

The season is over. It ended on a technicality. There is nothing left.

It is not over. I will take the NIT. You never know, maybe the selection committee might be nice and make the Zips one of the "First Four" in Dayton :)

I'm excited about the NIT! I know it sucks that we don't get to go to the Big Dance but I think this team could have a deep run in the NIT. It's good for everyone, the team can get more post season experience against post season worthy teams outside of the MAC and we get to follow them. I truly believe that this team could have won a game or two or even more in the NCAA. We all wanted to see us against a high major to see what we could do so it stings. We will get chances to face high majors in the NIT. It may be more plausible for us to go deep in the NIT right now because of our youth. What's better to you guys, going deep in the NIT or a possible first round exit from the NCAA? What if we even got an upset in the NCAA, would that change things? This is an honest question.

Sure you guys aren't thrilled right now, but wanted to stop in and say congrats on an excellent season and your regular-season title. Tonight's game, like so many between our schools the last handful of years, was a classic. I hope you get a good matchup in the NIT and can win a few games. I'll definitely be pulling for you.

And the technicality was Akron scored one point too few? Good one!

I think anyone who is a basketball fan would be interested in seeing their team play in the National Invitation Tournament. Let's pull for the Zips to have a full meal, MSG included. :D

Nice comments.

We're now MAC Champs, 2nd in MAC tournament, and an NIT qualifier. There have been years where we would have BEGGED to have such an outcome.

Its the byproduct of becoming a consistently successful team. When the expectation becomes success, anything less than ultimate success is deemed a "Failure". The Zips failed at defending their MAC Championship title from last year, but they've succeeded in securing a postseason for themselves with the regular season championship. Our program's bar is set so high that its almost NCAA or bust.

Look at the soccer program: They win the national championship and suddenly the bar is immediately raised to that level and anything short of it is deemed a failure.

Count me as someone who's happy to see we're at this stage in our program!

Absolutely correct, it is all about the expectations. The goal in the future should be playing a full season instead of the 3 games in March. We need to put ourselves in a situation to make the tourney even if the ball doesn't bounce our way in a game like today.

When Marshall used to play in the MAC, they used to talk about their team winning football "Championships". They didn't care if it was the MAC or a bowl championship. This is how I believe they should look at the NIT. It is a chance to win a championship. I hope they take advantage of the opportunity.

 It was a heartbreaker that is for sure. But I do believe everything happens for a reason. That last shot COULD have not gone in and been tipped by Zeke, it did not. Maybe we were meant to win the NIT or at least head to MSG. I know I will be there.

I think we should concentrate on thanking this team for a wonderful season and oh my what a great season next year.

NIT will give the guys more tournament experience for next year.

They played their hearts out. I APPLAUD all of the players, GREAT JOB!

Now on to the NIT, let's do it! :champs:

it makes me ill that the elitist pricks in the ncaa will consider a seton hall team that's 8-10 and potentially the 10th team from the big least rather than sniff akron....sickening

Not In Tournament.

You guys can care about this one all you want. I've been very consistent in my opinion, and I won't change now. This tournament is the losers bracket of college basketball. Playing in it is a bitter disappointment and a sign of a team that has underachieved. The only reason it gets any attention at all is because CBS has the broadcast rights for the real tournament, and ESPN needs something to show while that is going on.

Say what you want about the NIT. Truth is, we keep talking about getting respect and getting an at large bid for the Mac. Here is a chance to earn some respect. Win the NIT or get to the garden at least and things will be much easier next year

Winning the NIT will not make it easier to get into THE TOURNAMENT
