Lee Adams Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Watching the Ohio/ Micigan game. DJ Cooper is carrying OU. He is the type of player that can carry a team in big games. Most teams at the MAC level don't have that type of player. Thats one reason I'm watching this game tonight. Quote
bUAkronG Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I was not rooting for Ohio in this one. Quote
zipdiehard Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 and they are in an easy bracket. a way over rated Michigan team, and a second round against one of two average teams. won't be surprised if they make it to the sweet sixteen. Quote
akronzips71 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Kitties win. It was a great game. Stop knocking Michigan, they were on top of the Big Ten. DJ can play with the big boys. In fact, now I don't feel so bad. They are a very good team. Quote
GoZips88 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 (Holding my nose as I type this) Gotta hand it to OU ... two years ago and again this year they W-I-N a game that really matters. Quote
bandzip Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 There are no seniors on that team... Quote
Lee Adams Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 Good for OU. Though I am NOT an OU fan. As I have watched them the last couple of weeks they clearly have started to play better and have risen to the occasion in big games. Quote
GoZips88 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Lehigh up by 5 over Duke on CBS with less than a minute to go. Norfolk State, OU, and possibly Lehigh. Man I hate not dancing on a neutral court ... Quote
ZippyRulz Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 So who are the names for the new OU coach? Do they have any assistants capable of moving up? Quote
UAZip0510 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I'm rooting for them. Not being a dick, just really curious...why? Quote
Agent Zero Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 So who are the names for the new OU coach? Do they have any assistants capable of moving up? If Groce wasn't getting consideration before by larger schools, he might be now. That being said, if Ohio is smart, they'd try to lock him up and give him a raise. Quote
skip-zip Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 This has me sooo confused about how to feel. Great for the MAC and great for Mid-Majors. That's the way I like to root. I'm just a little ill knowing that OU has twice tasted NCAA victory in the last couple of years. And at least in the short term, I think it helps THEIR recruiting more than "MAC" recruiting as a whole. Plus, I think it puts a serious damper on our ability to become the successor to Can't as the next great recognizable MAC basketball program. Quote

Now, if a guy is torn between us and them, they can say they beat us twice in the Title game AND won two NCAA Tournament games. The only positive to me is that they may now have a new head coach next season. Quote
Dr Z Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 just really curious...why?Because they are a MAC team, so are we. We will have to take the same path and knock off top seeded teams to win in the tournament. That is what I would like to see us do...in my life time. Quote

Dr Z Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I guess I'm just not sure how that helps us in accomplishing that goal. One thing I can type without doubt, whomever I root for will have zero effect on Akron's success or failure. Quote
UAZip0510 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 One thing I can type without doubt, whomever I root for will have zero effect on Akron's success or failure. ...but who wins/won has a significant impact on Akron, and that's what we're discussing. Again, I was just asking...just curious. Quote
Dr Z Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I'm not sure what you want, how about this answer. I graduated from a mid major school, so I root for mid major schools in the tournament. That's all I got for you. Quote

Now, if a guy is torn between us and them, they can say they beat us twice in the Title game AND won two NCAA Tournament games. The only positive to me is that they may now have a new head coach next season. Maybe we do go after many of the same players. So, I think there could be some long term benefit for ALL of us if MAC teams are performing well in the Big Dance. I think it COULD raise the recruiting power of the entire conference as a whole. But short term, OU is now the "IT" team of the MAC, and I really thought a few years ago that WE were well on our way to being the next MAC team to wear that crown after Ken+. I'm sure there will be more discussion about this to follow. But, looking at the makeup of OUs two teams that won in the tournament might at least make some of us ask ourselves some questions. Quote
akronzips71 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I like to see midmajors win in the dance. VCU, OU, Lehigh It makes the shot at future at large spots that much stronger for all the "lower" conferences. Quote
zipdiehard Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Speaking of Lehigh: how did that McCollum (sp) end up there and not UA or Can't? I remember him being really good in high school. Quote
