sorry for the lack of updates. Akron won 2-1. Pitt's goal came off a mistake in the back from a bad pass. Akron kept Pitt on the defensive the entire game. Possession was at least 75% in favor of Akron. They dominated and had plenty of shots on goal. We missed a penalty kick before the end of the 1st half. For $0 to get in, this is the best bargain in town.

Highlights of the game: Great Akron possession and dominance, Eric Stevenson almost bagging a hat-trick, the return Porter who in my imagination is now wiser and more hardened after coming back from war (I expected him to have a beard and be kind of war veteran-esque), and DeAndre Yedlin's new hair, outdoing the likes of Brek Shea and Juan Swagudelo for craziest mo-hawk. Fun game, but I'm going to need to bundle up more for tomorrow night.

It was cold.

Gallego, now a captain, continues to attempt boneheaded passes out of the back. He is mostly responsible for Pitt's goal with an unnecessarily risky pass up the middle getting intercepted. Gallego is a good player, but THAT needs to be cleaned up. :wall:

At a young age, I was told that 1/3 of goals come in the run of play, 1/3 comes from set pieces, and 1/3 is the result of defensive turnovers. It seems to me that defensive sloppiness is the easiest of the three to remedy.

Yedlin has a crazy Mohawk, but he is still very fast. His runs up the right flank put real pressure on Pitt.

Stevenson looks in good form. His finishing seems to have improved. I like him better in the offense than at LB.

Trapp looks just as stellar now as he was last season. He almost never makes a poor pass, and he is nearly impossible to dispossess.

Quinn looks much more comfortable within the system.

Barrett looked lost, subbing in the last 30.

Thanks for updates and some details. Was the PK shot wide, high , or just blocked by GK?

Not sure if I have this right, but it looked like he shot in down the middle at the goalkeeper. The clock was at 0:00 when it was taken.

I agree with your assessment. Eric tried to mix up the GK, but the PK ended up going nearly down the middle, on the ground with the GK having to make a slight move to his right to block it.

Bisbee,

The Mohawk is still jet black. At least he did not dye it.

It actually looks cool.

DeAndre's Mohawk is bad@ss. I like it.

Perhaps he should try some "Ampai" highlights. :)

I thought DeAndre had a great performance last night. Very good ball movement and control and a couple of times placed the ball in perfect position to be put into the net. Several opportunities missed. Should have been 4 or 5 - nil in the end. Also had some good take backs. The Zips definitely dominated and looked improved over last Fall.

What was starting lineup position wise?

Pretty much the line-up that was speculated about a few weeks ago:

---Stevenson---Schmitt---Brenes---

------------Quinn--------Caldwell----

-------------------Trapp---------------

--Portillos--Barson--Gallego--Yedlin--

------------------Meves---------------

Eventually Cristian Arboleda came in for Brenes I think, and Akiel Barret came in for I don't remember.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the new kids fit in during the regular season, because I know once they arrive things shuffle around a bit.
