K92
This article confirms (again) how bad it got with Ianello. I shudder to think what additional damage might have been inflicted if the administration would have decided to give Rob "one more year". I am glad the sole survivors from the 2009 recruiting class are going to finally have a chance to have fun playing football again.
scottditzen
Wow, this article was a bit tough to read. A stark realization of the pit we've fallen into. An abyss. If I see Coach Bowden I am going to personally thank him for coming back to Akron.
Dr Z
"My ticket has always been to be as positive as possible," says new Akron football coach Terry Bowden on turning around the fortunes of the MAC cellar-dwellers. "Right now, we want to win two games as quick as possible and build from there." TESTIFY

I am glad the sole survivors from the 2009 recruiting class are going to finally have a chance to have fun playing football again. I got that impression as well from the Malachi Freeman article where he stated that one of the players on the team told him not to come here if Ianello was still the coach. Once you get players recruiting you to not come to the school you are screwed.
CincyZip
I love the honeymoon period! Can't wait to get this thing started.
Captain Kangaroo
It was refreshing to read a Pluto article that was informative, and chock full of quotes. Not his cookie-cutter, Little Engine the Could re-write. Lots of thought-provoking insight: "We really needed a fresh start. Coach Bowden has done that. He is positive. He did things like bring the [Fellowship of Christian Athletes] back." So we can add another fan- and player-friendly program to the list of events (golf outing, Meet the Team, etc.) that Ianello killed in his Sherman-esque march through the UA campus. How the F was this clown ever hired? "All I can say is that this has been awesome," said Fleming. "I feel like I can enjoy the game again. It's like the difference between night and day." Too bad it wasn't Brian Wagner stating that line. But I am happy for all the survivors who've swapped the Ianello Interment Camp for "Camp Zippy." Seems like going from Dachau to Disney. "We didn't come in here trying to get rid of everyone," he said. "Because I believe that the guys who have stayed here over the last couple of years must have something special inside." That's a great way to look at the returning players. If that isn't proof of the guy's positive point of view, I don't know what is. "I've always thought of this as a special place," Fleming said. "I can't tell you exactly why, but leaving would have been wrong for me. Those of us who are left, we are like a band of brothers." I see a huge parallel between Fleming's situation, and that of the 2010-11 Lot 9'ers, and ZN.o for that matter. We stayed because UA is our school, and the brotherhood, and sisterhood, of the diehards couldn't be broken no matter how hard Ianello tried. Walking out on the Zips wasn't an option. I expect tailgating in the Disney Lot will be much more fun than it was outside Dachau.
scottditzen
It's amazing how a bad coach can kill your passion. Although he was nowhere near the disaster that Coach I was, I get the feeling that Coach Hipsher had a similar result on the basketball team.
