fknbuflobo
Jared Embick. Easy. The low hanging fruit has been picked; it will likely be him. Who else should be considered? And NO, Yaz, not Jim Tressel.
bobbyake
as far as salary information goes, at 350,000 a year, Caleb Porter was/is the highest paid college coach that I know of. Elmar Bolowich, Creighton's current head coach, made $91,052 a year when he left UNC in 2011. More info on salaries of NC coaches. UCONN's coach, Ray Reid, is at 133,000 UVA's coach, Gelnovatch, makes $74,700 a year. Clemson's coach, Noonan, makes $250,000 a year. more at big soccer http://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads...oaches.1273434/
Wally B
Anyone who shares Porters style of play, recruiting ability, and penchant for supporting academics and the AK rowdies! Porter is leaving some big shoes to fill, but his decision to complete the season says volumes about the man who will be a zip forever! Short of that is Kai Haskivi available? ZachTheZip
A better question is: what did coach Porter make when he first came here? We're not going to pay an incoming, unproven coach the same as what Porter is making now.
Crew8
I personally don't have any ideas on who will be the next replacement, but I know ISN threw out two names last night on Twitter. Head Coach Todd Yeagley from Indiana Current Assistant Coach Curt Onalfo from the LA Galaxy

Z.I.P.
Hahahah....Todd Yeagley is not leaving Indiana to go to Akron. No...but that doesn't eliminate Bloomington coaches from consideration. IU #1 Ass't Coach Brian Maissoneuve is in similar position to where Caleb Porter occupied seven years ago, and should receive a long look. Other than that, I would like to see youth academy coaches get consideration, starting with Columbus Crew Academy Coaching Director Billy Thompson. OK -- I met Billy when he played in Hawaii! But with his background in college, pro and MLS academy development he has high standing. Hope he applies. But first, let's join our coach in focusing on achieving our goal for this season. I know the boys in blue and gold will!
jem101
I don't pretend to know all the other coaches around the country and who is available, but I don't think it's enough to go out and get a coach who will win. We also need to get a coach who will play an attractive brand of soccer while doing so. That's why I like the idea of promoting Embick. I'm sure he's ingrained in the Porter philosophy. Sell that style of soccer and the recruits will still want to come to Akron.

RootforRoo44
I'm sorry, but if Embick isn't on our short list, there's something wrong.
fknbuflobo
I'm sorry, but if Embick isn't on our short list, there's something wrong. Embick should get strong consideration. But he should not be a "shoe-in." We should do our due diligence and look around a bit.

yazan07
Look, I don't know Jared Embick personally, but I agree with some that he shouldn't be automatically handed this job just because he worked under Caleb. I just don't know if he has the intangibles to recruit and do other things the way Porter did. MAYBE he does, and maybe he can handle the job well, but we as fans don't really know. Yeah he's seen how Porter works and could probably continue to replicate that to some extent, but Porter is a one of a kind guy, and I don't think his assistant necessarily possesses the same intangibles as him just based on being his assistant. I think promoting within can work, but depends on what kind of job it is. I just don't know if Jared Embick has all of the "Porter package." And while no other coach may have that, someone else might be closer. Now I'm gonna step off my soap box because I just thought of a name that would pretty much be based solely on name recognition. I don't know how successful he has been at other places, but I know he just received his first head coaching college job. Kenny Arena anyone? Could not have said it better myself. Young Arena does not have enough solid track record. Embick beats Arena. BTW, We are all guilty of presuming that Embick wants the job. Keep up the brainstorm. yazan07
Okay okay I have another really good one. What team did Porter model our style after? And who is currently without a job and is moving to the states? That's right boys, Pep Guardiola for Akron.
