DM has always been a fine shot stopper.

He has steadily improved all other aspects of his game throughout his career.

Do not be surprised to see Meves drafted to Timbers.

Actually, if they took him in Rd 1, I would be shocked! Has anyone seen Meves' name in any pre-draft analyses? I also wonder -- how much power Caleb has in scouting/draft selection? This is an area where I worry about clashes between Porter and Wilkinson.

Shocked?

I would be shocked if CP agreed to a deal without control of personnel.

How many rounds in MLS draft?

2 regular, and one suplemental.

You are the statistical analyst. How many GKs taken in 1st round?

I guess that most GKs are taken later than 1st round or are free agents.

McMath was taken pretty early - He was GenAddidas, I think - but he's the only goalie I can recall off the top of my head recently

A quick glance through the past 4 drafts. 6 were taken in the first two rounds. 2 in the first round. Not including starting Chicago keeper Sean Johnson, but he was taken in the 4th round in 2010.

If it makes a difference, Portland's #1 this year is Donovan Ricketts who is old and has seen better days. He was traded to Portland from Montreal a little while back. It made no sense because I guess Portland's keeper was pretty good and a bit younger.

There is no way on God's green earth Porter uses his first round draft pick on Meves. Considering it sounds like he wasn't even the sure #1 during Spring you really think Porter would use a draft pick on him? He's been unreal this year but drafting a keeper early doesn't seem to happen much.

I never suggested first round for Meves. Second round sounds plausible. Certainly, free agency is an option.

That is why I initiated discussion regarding acquisition of MLS Goal Keepers. How does this usually occur? I think Meves has just recently played himself into the pros.

But my real point is that Portland needs a new GK, and Porter is very comfortable with Meves.

yeah I wasn't suggesting Porter would take Meves first round, but maybe if he fell later or even in the supplemental draft, maybe Porter would think about picking him up if GK depth was something needed for Portland. I know Porter isn't planning on getting the whole gang back together just for the sake of it. Now if they're really looking for a new #1 up there, MAYBE Evan Bush...

doubt caldwell has the physical mettle to play in portland's shoebox of a pitch tbh

They're suppose to be expanding the pitch next year.

Scott Caldwell is more likely to end up being drafted by Porter in the 1st round

Very interesting thought. I wonder if he would forego a homegrown deal from the Revs if he was promised by Porter that he'd be drafted. He could turn it down regardless, but that would be an interesting decision if it played out that way.

David Meves will undoubtedly play professionally.

I don't know about that, but Meves definitely saved Akron's bacon tonight against avery aggressive Ohio State side. Watched the whole game on BTN.

David made some super saves tonight

Meves played well as did the OSU goalkeeper.

I think if we see OSU again at our place in the NCAAT, the result will be very different. Here's to hoping they win the Big Ten Championship because that is the only way OSU gets into the NCAAT.

Let's be real for a second:

Meves is a VERY good GK.

He is NOT Evan Bush.

That being said, AWESOME job by David on breaking the record. He has cat-like instincts in between the posts and he showed that all night tonight. AMAZING.

A question ... If Evan Bush had 49 career shutouts, why is he not listed in the NCAA record book? See page 6 (bottom left corner of the page) of the 2012 record book.

A comment ... According to page 6 of the record book mentioned above, the NCAA career leader had 50 career shutouts. David Meves now has 52 (Hartwick, MSU)...and is the new NCAA career leader. Did I miss this being mentioned somewhere previously?
