with the recent developments of the USLPro and reserve league, it might become difficult to recruit MLS academy prospects. We could see MLS teams sign their academy players sooner so they can play them in the USL Pro/Reserve league. I don't believe college players can play USL Pro or NASL, but can play USL PDL or NPSL.

A stronger second and third league in the US could start decreasing the talent we see at the college level.

You may be ultimately right, but not in the near future. Plenty of MLS Academy players will sign with NCAA schools tomorrow.

it doesn't help our recruiting when players know they'll have to sit for a year. We've got a very talented team returning, it will be hard for the incoming freshmen to get minutes.

AHHHhhhh!

You are right, I did. Eric, please forgive me!

Stevenson.............................Koroma

.....................Brenes....................

Najem...............................Quinn

..................Foldesy..................

Derschang....................Abdul-Salaam

..........Gallego............Souders..........

.....................Pina...........................

This lineup is a pretty good one, with only one newcomer starting. Well, two newcomers starting, if you count Pina.

Don't forget Omari Morris, he turned down a homegrown contract to come here. He should be getting a lot of playing time.

Toronto FC, right?

yes, he's in the Toronto FC Academy.

Akron's recruiting class, which hasn't been announced yet, did not make topdrawer's top 20 list http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soc...:-boys_aid28419

Ouch!

Perhaps this Brazilian MF will turn the tables. Not likely.

Someone on Embick's staff should be investigating Lucas Cawley.

Speaking of staff, I read yesterday from AFC Cleveland's supporter group. AFC Cleveland Head Coach and University of Thiel Head Coach, Andy Hoggarth was hired on as an assistant to Jared Embick's staff. I have seen no official report from any other sources though or either organization.

EDIT: Officially announced Assistant Coach of the WOMEN's Soccer Program.

Seriously! How long should we reasonably wait for announcement of 2013 recruiting class? Anyone got anything?

LOL! I don't get onto Bigsoccer much (if ever) anymore, but there used to be a thread annually dedicated to this subject: How long will it take certain universities to announce their classes? :P

I was just looking at Topdrawer's recruiting list and noticed that it shows another new goalkeeper for the class of 2013, Jonathan DeMoya from Baltimore Bays club. This was the first I had seen his name, though I may have misssed something on here, if it was mentioned. About how many keepers are on the roster now?

I go on BigSoccer frequently. Every 2 weeks, I post that Akron has yet to announce their recruiting class.

It is now a bit of a joke. Some there have suggested that the coaching staff is ashamed. Say it ain't so!

Whether or not we know who's been recruited, we should start getting a feel for how our team looks under the new coach this Friday at CSU. Perhaps instead of posting on BigSoccer, you might try contacting the AD, the SID (aka Associate Director for Athletics Communications), or the new Head Coach. E-mail addresses are available on GoZips.com.

I will continue to post on BigSoccer because it pleases me to do so.

There will come a time in the near future when I will remind the folks you have listed above that part of their jobs is to disseminate pertinent information.

I too will be there at CSU to see our boys. Will that be indoors? Does Krentzler field have a seasonal, inflatable dome?

My point was that if you really want the recruiting class information released, you should go to the folks who can do so. Griping about it on Bigsoccer won't help you get what you want. I've already e-mailed one of the folks I listed (a few days before I saw your post on ZN.o). Perhaps if more people did so, we would see something.

Krenzler Field does have an inflatable dome which I believe will be on the field for Friday's match. See you there.

Just jerking your chain.

They may be delaying the announcement because not everything is settled with this Brazilian kid. I do not know.

See you there tomorrow.

Sorry ahead of time for being a negative Nancy, but unless Embick has something really big up his sleeve, I don't think our incoming class is going to be very press release worthy, at least compared to what we've seen in past years. I'm used to MLS academy caliber recruits. Usually the guys who come from Internationals SC sit the bench and fill out the practice squad, then some of them transfer out after their first year. Save for our Red Bulls product Adam Najem, we are looking at mostly local guys. I'm not saying these guys aren't quality, but I don't know if they are the quality Akron has been used to.

The good news is that there are enough Porter recruits left who played significant minutes the last few years that none of the new guys need to start immediately for us to not sink. But if we don't have a stellar year that brings us better recruits next year, I don't know what happens after that. If the point of promoting Embick was just to keep anyone from jumping ship, I guess we've succeeded there, but what happens when we run out of Porter guys and we've replaced them with less talented players. Not sure you can play Porterball without high quality players.

Again, sorry for my pessimism, this is just the way I am perceiving things now.

Embick usually get a lot of cred for the (non-Mattocks) international guys - Admittedly, none of the (non-Mattocks) international guys have been overwhelmingly great, the exception being Brenes I guess

Worth mentioning that a bunch of our blue-chippers HAVE been local guys - Nags, Steve Z, Nanchoff were all Cleve Intl's, and that's not including the columbus folk

Andy, your point is well taken if not entirely accurate. Ben Zemanski played for Everest SC; his father was coach.

Incidentally, Dan Zemanski has been promoted to Head Coach at Hiram College, a position vacated by our new acquisition, Carl Capellas.
