yazan07
If Meves and Nanchoff get signed, that would put six (and eventually seven) Zips in the Timbers organization: Porter, Pablo Moreira, Cameron Knowles, Darlington, Nano, Meves (Gallego). How cool is that?

yazan07
Porter is coaching his first game right now against the Colorado Rapids. Nagbe starting up top in 4-4-2, Timbers pressing early and have already had a couple good chances. http://www.mlssoccer.com/live/channel1
MDZip
Timbers up 3-0. Very possession oriented game. I think I've seen that style before. And didn't the young man, Gaberiel Genovesi, who just set a school record for the 800 meters originally commit as a soccer player? Still think he should do both. By the way, why did no one post a picture of this awesome sculpture on campus? Is it not from this year? Can't tell from the Top Drawer Soccer article. EDIT: For anyone who didn't see it live, the Timbers have a replay of today's match on the website: http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2013/0...-top-rapids-3-1 Yes, it is recent. Fox 8 in Cleveland featured that ice sculpture, Jared Embick, Bryan Gallego, and Reinaldo Brenes on their morning show last Thursday, I think. https://twitter.com/ZipsPaul/status/294076355140788225

TheTank123
Just wondered if Bisbee was on hand for the Duel in the Desert? Where you at, Pops? Haha he's on timeout from ZN. They did not go to the game, but will be at all of the SSFC preseason games. I'm actually going down for the Desert Diamond Classic in Mid february and SSCF's "starting" right back is usually called into Sweden camp and they have qualifying that week so DeA might get the nod. yazan07
Just listened to an interview on The Best Soccer Show with Timbers owner Merritt Paulson. He dropped a couple of interesting pieces of information. In discussing trying to get a US World Cup qualifier at Jeld-Wen field, he brought up his relationship with Jurgen Klinsmann and how he was a big help in the head coaching search. So for anyone who hadn't put the pieces together, Klinsmann was in on the move for Porter to Portland the whole time, which isn't surprising given his comments that he had wanted Caleb to make a move to the professional level. Paulson also discussed the move that almost brought Mix Diskerud to Portland. He said that Mix was interested because he and Porter had built a pretty good relationship during their time with the U-23s, despite the team not qualifying. I guess it almost happened, but when they started talking specifics, Mix would have had to have been a designated player and they decided they didn't want to pay DP money for a kid who was still kind of a project. Just some interesting info I thought I'd pass along.

Zip_ME87
Nice day in Arizona for David Meves. ...Goalkeeper David Meves, Portland’s first-round pick in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, played the full 90 minutes and made three saves, including a diving stop on a hard shot by FC Tucson’s Milos Dragic in the second half, as the Timbers recorded a second straight preseason shutout.... Edit: Michael Nanchoff had an assist in the preseason victory.
yazan07
Does anyone remember me joking at a tailgate about Porter assembling all the Akron players in Portland? I swear I really was joking and had no insider information, but this is hilarious. Not in a bad way of course. Gotta root for the Timbers now. Total former Zips count at Portland (if everyone is signed): SEVEN (Porter, Nagbe, Zemanski, Meves, Nanchoff, Moreira, Knowles). I wonder if Porter would be willing to pay me to come be a fan in Portland.
Zip_ME87
Zemanski thrilled for fresh start with former mentor Porter ...Zemanski and Porter certainly have a successful history. The two teamed for three straight conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances from 2007-09, including a run to the final in Zemanski's final year. He was also teammates with Timbers midfielder/forward Darlington Nagbe for two seasons at Akron. ...

Ando
In all honestly, there probably wasn't any thought that went into assigning the attributes that way - He hasn't really coached professionally, so those would have been generated mostly at random at the start of the game you'd have to take a look at the game editor to see what's actually there

fknbuflobo
After training with the team for several weeks this preseason, Michael Nanchoff is officially a Timber Forgive me if I have written this elsewhere; I think I have. During the Porter farewell, 12/12/2012, Mikey remarked not once, but twice, that he really liked the Timbers jersey I was wearing. I thought it very curious at the time. Come to think of it, Pablo Moreira complimented me as well. Pretty slow on my part, I guess.

Crew8
Nope. Sorry. Never been to a tailgate before. What is it, anyway? I recall the farewell party as well and spoke to Michael about his situation. I asked him straight up if he was going to Portland to join Porter. He smiled, laughed, and said I probably shouldn't be talking about this.
